Sensory Tubes
• Place objects of different textures inside the tubes. Describe one of the textures. Then, have a student find and
remove the matching-textured object.
• Place small magnets, paperclips, and colored discs in a tube. Move the magnetic items by moving another magnet
along the outside of the tube. Let students feel the pull of the magnet.
Other ideas:
• Give students textured items such as a feather, rock, and cotton ball. Have students describe what they think the
texture feels like before touching the item, and again after touching the item.
• Sense of touch involves more than just your fingers. Have students gently rub textured objects across their arms or
legs.
