10. Maintenance and storage

• If the fall arrest system is dirty, it should be washed in
clear, cold water with a mild detergent if necessary,
use a synthetic brush.
• If, during use or washing, the fall arrest system has
been wet, it must be allowed to dry naturally in the
shade and away from any heat source.
• During transport and storage, protect the equipment
from any risk of damage (sharp edges, direct heat
source, chemicals, UV, etc.).
• Check that the clutch/disengagement of the recovery
system is correct.
• Check that the cable is not damaged over its entire
length.
• In case of product contamination, consult Tractel® or
one of its resellers.

The label on each of the automatic fall arresters
blocfor™ indicates:

13. Periodic inspection and repair
An annual periodic inspection is required, but depending
on the frequency of use, environmental conditions
and regulations of the company or the country of use,
periodic inspections may be more frequent.
Periodic inspections must be carried out by an
authorised and competent technician and in accordance
with the manufacturer's examination procedures as set
out in the "Tractel® PPE Verification Instructions" file.
Confirmation of the legibility of the product markings
should be an integral part of the periodic inspection.
At the end of the periodic inspection, the return to
service must be notified in writing by the authorised
and competent technician who conducted the periodic
inspection. This return to service must be recorded on
the inspection sheet in the middle of this manual. This
inspection record should be retained throughout the
product's life cycle, up until it is recycled.
After arresting a fall, this product must undergo a
periodic inspection as described in the current article.
The product's textile components must be changed,
even though they may not display any visible change.
14. Lifespan
Tractel® textile PPE equipment such as harnesses,
lanyards, ropes and energy absorbers, Tractel®
mechanical PPE equipment such as stopcable™ and
stopfor™ fall-arresters, blocfor™ self-retracting fall-
arresters, and the Tractel® lifelines can be used without
restrictions from their manufacturing date providing that
they are subject to:
– normal use in accordance with the recommendations
for use given in this manual,
– a periodic inspection, which must be performed at
least once a year by an approved and competent
technician. At the end of this periodic review, the PPE
must be declared in writing fit for re-entry into service.
– strict compliance with the storage and transport
conditions contained in the current manual.
