Connecting the plasma-cutting torch
• The plasma cutting torch and plasma power source form a unit in terms of
technical safety and both must fulfill EN 60974-7.
• Observe requirements of power source supplier before, during and after
operation of the plasma cutting torch.
Since the plasma nozzle cannot be protected against direct contact
for technical reasons, it is necessary for the plasma cutting power
source to satisfy the requirements of EN 60974-7, Point 7.4.1,
(limitation of peak voltage values).
The plasma cutting torch in combination with the plasma power source must
fulfill the EC Guideline EMC (89/336/EEC), Guideline on electromagnetic
compatibility. (see 2. Proper use)
• Compressed air for plasma and cooling gas
Precise adjustment of the compressed air pressure and flow/volume
are important for (see 3. Technical data):
– striking the pilot arc,
– cutting quality,
– service life of torch and consumables,
– a low flow pressure will lead to thermal overload of the torch and must be
avoided by proper adjustment of a pressure monitor on the system side.
• Filtered compressed air free of oil and water
