STANDARDS OF USE

For instructions regarding the engine and the battery
(if supplied), read the relevant manuals.
NOTE - The number which precedes each paragraph
links the references in the text to the respective figures
(listed on the pages 2 - 3).
1. FINISH ASSEMBLY
NOTE - The machine can be supplied with some of the
components already fitted.
WARNING - Unpacking and completing the assembly
should be done on a flat and stable surface, with
enough space for machine handling and its packag-
ing, always making use of suitable equipment.
Disposal of the packaging should be done in accor-
dance with the local regulations in force.
1.1a
Type "I":
Secure the handle (1) to the chassis brackets using the
nuts and bolts (2) supplied, as shown in the drawing,
ensuring that the pins (3) are inserted in the right holes for
the handle's correct height. Mount the starter cable guide
spring (4).
Attach the control cables using the clips (5).
1.1b
Type "II":
Return the handle (1) to the work position and secure it to
the side chassis supports using the supplied nuts and
bolts (2) as illustrated.
The handle (1) can be height-adjusted in three different
positions by inserting the pins (3) in one of the three pairs
of holes on the brackets.
Tighten the thumb knobs (2) securely after adjustment.
Hook the starter cable (4) to the guide spiral (5).
Tighten the nut (6) to secure the spiral (5).
1.2
On models with an electric starter, connect the bat-
tery cable to the lawnmower's general cable connection.
2. DESCRIPTION OF CONTROLS
NOTE - The meanings of the symbols on controls are
explained on page 4 and following.
2.1
Throttle trigger
The throttle s controlled by the lever (1) and positioned as
shown on the relative plate.
2.2
Blade engagement and consent levers
The blade must only be engaged when the engine is run-
ning.
To engage the blade:
– pull the consent lever (1) towards the handle;
– firmly push the engagement lever (2) as far forward as
possible and allow it to return to its idle position. This
movement must be quick and decisive to prevent
the clutch from slipping and damaging.
When you release the consent lever (1) the blade stops,
and the engine keeps running.
To engage the blade again, please repeat the above illus-
trated procedure.
2.3
Drive engagement lever
In power-driven models, draw the lever (1) towards the
handle for forward movement.
The lawnmower stops moving forward when the lever is
released.
2.4
Cutting height adjustment
The cutting height is adjusted by releasing the lever (1)
and lifting or lowering the chassis to the required position
which can be seen through the special opening.
MAKE THIS ADJUSTMENT ONLY WHEN THE BLADE
HAS STOPPED MOVING.
3. GRASS CUTTING
3.1
Lift the stone-guard and attach the rigid grass-
catcher (1) or cloth grass-catcher (2) correctly as shown
in the drawings.
3.2
Do not start up the engine when the blade is
engaged.
To start the engine, move the throttle (1) to the position
indicated on the Manual, then give a sharp pull on the
starter cable knob (2).
If the model has electric ignition, turn the starter key (3).
3.3
When working, engage and disengage the blade as
indicated in point 2.2.
IMPORTANT – Do not engage the blade in the presence
of very high grass.
LAWN CARE RECOMENDATIONS
Each type of grass has different features and may thus
require different ways to care for the lawn; always read
the instructions on seed boxes for mowing height for the
growth conditions in the work area.
Keep in mind that most grass is made up of a stem and
one or more leaves. If leaves are fully cut, the lawn is
damaged and growth is more difficult.
The following indications generally apply:
– too low a cut causes grass tears and uprooting, with a
"spotted" aspect;
– in the summer, cutting must be higher to avoid the
ground from drying;
– do not cut wet grass; this could reduce blade efficien-
cy due to sticky grass and tear the lawn;
– for particularly high grass, initially mow at maximum
admitted machine height followed by a second mow
after two or three days.
The appearance of the lawn will improve if you alternate
the cutting in both directions at the same height.
