► Drive train
The drive train fulfils the function of efficiently converting the physical effort of pedal-
ling into forward motion. On your ROTWILD MTB/Racing bike, the chain ring unit,
bottom bracket (internal bearing), chain and freewheel are accurately matched to the
sprocket (cassette). To avoid malfunctions: If any single components are replaced,
these must be compatible with the rest of the drive train. Your dealer will be pleased
to advise you. The following section contains information on the individual drive train
components.
► Bottom bracket
The internal bearing of the ROTWILD MTB/Racing bike bottom bracket is mainte-
nance free and requires no re-greasing. Examine your bottom bracket for play every
now and again. Check the tightness of the pedal cranks and the bottom bracket
shaft. Avoid cleaning the bottom bracket with high-pressure water jet cleaners!
► Chain
The chain is, along with all derailleur gear
components, a classical wearing part. It
requires care and maintenance (see appro-
priate section) and must be renewed in good
time to avoid damage to other components.
Check your chain regularly for elongation
(stretching). Your dealer has special equip-
ment for this purpose. Elongated chains can lead to the destruction of chain rings
and gears! If you do need a new chain, make sure it is compatible with your gears,
chain rings and sprockets.
► Sprocket (cassette)
The sprocket cassette is slip-fitted or screwed to the freewheel unit of the rear hub.
The varying length of teeth is not a result of manufacturing error, but serves an aid
to gear changing, particularly under stress. Constant shifting under stress signifi-
cantly increases the wear on all components of the drive train. Please try to reduce
pedal pressure as often as possible while changing gear. If you need a new sprocket
set, please ensure that it is compatible with your hub, chain and shift. Please consult
your dealer.

► Chain ring unit
The varying length of teeth is not a result of manufacturing
error; it serves, along with shift ramps, for smoother
changing, particularly under load!
