► Headset
Bearings must be tight fitting and show no play and, at the same time, turn
smoothly. Bearing play can easily cause defects leading up to a sudden catastrophic
steering lock. ROTWILD MTBs/Racing bikes are equipped with Aheadset bearings
Special characteristics of Aheadset headsets
This system is characterised by the fact that the stem is not installed
inside a conventional steering tube, but clamped to the outside of a
threadless steering tube. The stem is an important element of the head-
set. Clamping fixes the bearing adjustment.
Adjustment of an Aheadset headset:
6.
Release the clamping screws on the stem, located on either the sides or the
rear of the stem.
7.
Carefully tighten the top countersunk adjusting screw with a hex-key. Don't
tighten it too much; it also adjusts the bearing play!
8.
Re-align the stem so that the handlebars are at right angles to the direction of
travel.
9.
Re-tighten the lateral clamping screws.
10. Check that there is no bearing play. The bearing should not be over tightened
either.
IMPORTANT: Check the correct installation of the stem after adjusting the bear-
ing – it should not rotate! A loose stem can lead to serious crashes!
