INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing a high quality silicone liner from Össur. We can
assure you that you have made the right choice. Please carefully review
and follow these instructions before fitting a patient with the liner or
accessory products. Remember that informing the patient concerning
proper handling and care of the liner, as set forth in these instructions, is
important to achieve patient comfort and maximum product life.
PRODUCT SELECTION AND FITTING
Liner sizing (Figure 1)
To determine the correct Iceross size:
1. Measure the circumference of the residual limb at 4 cm from the
distal end.
2. Choose the Iceross size, which corresponds to the measurement or
which, is immediately below the indicated measurement.
3. Never choose a liner size, which exceeds the measurement, or round
up.
Example: If the residual limb measures 24,5 cm at the indicated location,
choose Iceross size 23,5 not size 25.
Selecting the correct size is very important. If the liner is too tight, this
may cause pistoning and/or numbness and blistering. If the liner is too
loose, increased perspiration and/or movement of the limb inside the
liner may occur. Perspiration and movement can lead to blisters and
rashes. If any of the above symptoms or any other indication of improper
fit are noted, the user should be instructed to contact his/her physician
or prosthetist immediately.
Note: On transtibial applications the stabilizing matrix should cover at
least 4 cm of bony structures. Do not allow the matrix to extend higher
than the fibula head. Similar principles apply to transradial applications,
and the matrix should not extend higher than the medial condyles.
Distal attachments
Your Iceross locking liner will have either fixed or interchangeable distal
attachment, note that cushion liners have no distal attachments.
Cushion liners needs to be used with sleeve that holds vacuum.
Fixed Distal Attachments (Figure 2)
When using an Iceross liner with a fixed distal attachment and an
attachment pin, caution must be taken to properly tighten the
attachment pin to the fixed distal attachment. Always apply Loctite
410/411 or equivalent compound to the threads of the Össur attachment
pin (used with Icelock) and torque to 4 Nm (3ft.lbs). Össur does not
recommend the use of pins without a flange with ICEROSS
liners (Figure 3). If you choose to use a locking pin without a flange
please take note of the following actions:
Fasten the pin with maximum torque of 1,5 Nm (1ft. lbs) and apply Loctite
410/411 or equivalent compound to the threads of the pin.
