Commissioning and operation
Open the protective device.
Start the machine or system; if the safety function of the protective
device is correct, the machine or system must not start.
If, nevertheless, the machine or system starts, again check com-
pliance with mounting conditions, the correctness of all electrical
connections and correct the safety system function without de-
l ay.

4.1.3 Checking LED displays

Check whether
Power LED (B5 green, cf. Fig. 2) illuminates when operating voltage
is present
LEDs for output contacts (green) illuminate when the safety out-
puts are closed
Error LED (B4 red, cf. Fig. 2) illuminates if there is an error
LED PSDI output (B1 yellow, cf. Fig. 2) flashes continuously after
the application of the supply voltage
LEDs for enable information (B2 and B3 green, cf. Fig. 2) flash con-
tinuously depending on the correctly connected sensors or chains
of sensors

4.1.4 External device monitoring (EDM)

Check external device monitoring
if necessary, bridge any unused connections
4.2 Regular inspection of the protective device in
operation
Maintenance work is not required on the relay evaluation unit IN 40-
R. However, to ensure correct function over the long term, regular
checks are necessary.
