On safety
As a safety system IN 4000 together with related safety sensors in
the series IN 4000 and the related machine or plant control, the relay
evaluation unit IN 40-R secures, e.g., moving protective devices with a
guard function such that
the dangerous state of the machine or system can only be swit-
ched on when the protective devices are closed.
a stop command is triggered if a protective device is opened with
the machine running.
For the control this means that
switch on commands that produce dangerous states are only al-
lowed to become effective when the protective devices are in the
protective position
and
dangerous states must be terminated before the protective posi-
tion is left.
Prior to the use of the safety system, a risk assessment must be per-
formed on the machine in accordance with:
EN 954-1, Safety-related parts of control systems
EN 1050, Safety of machinery, principles of risk assessment
EN 12 100 Safety of machinery, basic concepts
Correct use includes observance of the applicable requirements on
installation and operation, in particular
EN 1088, Safety of Machinery. Interlocking devices associated with
guards. Principle for design and selection
EN 999, Safety of machinery – The positioning of protective
equipment in respect of approach speeds of parts of the human
body
EN 60 204-1, Electrical equipment of machines
EN 61 000-6-2, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Generic stan-
dards. Immunity standard for industrial environments
The relay evaluation unit IN 40-R must be regularly subjected to a
technical inspection as per section 4.2.
