This chapter deals with your own safety and the safety of the equip-
ment operators.
Please read this chapter carefully before working with the relay
evaluation unit IN 40-R or with the machine protected by the
evaluation unit in connection with the related protective devices.
The national/international rules and regulations apply to the installa-
tion, commissioning, use and periodic technical inspections of the
relay evaluation unit IN 40-R, in particular:
Machine Directive 98/37/EC,
Low voltage directive 73/23/EC
EMC directive 89/336/EEC,
Work Equipment Directive 89/655/EEC,
the safety regulations
as well as
the work safety regulations/safety rules.
1.1

Specialist personnel

The relay evaluation unit IN 40-R and the related safety sensors is
only allowed to be mounted and placed in operation by specialist per-
sonnel. Specialist personnel are defined as persons who
have undergone the appropriate technical training
and
who have been instructed by the responsible machine operator in
the operation of the machine and the current valid safety guide-
lines
and
who have access to these operating instructions.
1.2

Applications of the evaluation unit

The relay evaluation unit IN 40-R is a redundant, diverse system for
the evaluation of signals from inductive safety sensors in the series
IN 4000. Up to 10 safety sensors IN 40-D in up to 6 safety sensor
chains can be connected.
The relay evaluation unit IN 40-R monitors the safety sensors con-
nected and evaluates their output state.
