17H50 Hip Joint
Art. no.
17H50=1
17H50=2
A 29C70 Hip Pad Set and a 29C71 Thigh Pad are additionally
required, the sizes of which are dependent on the corresponding
module.
4 Applying the Orthosis
4.1 Preparing the Orthosis for Application
Screw the protective cap off the hip joint to adjust the flexion and extension stop according to
the physician's prescriptions (fig. 2). Next screw the protective cap back onto the joint.
Loosen the screw of the abduction-adduction joint so that the lower section of the joint bar can
be moved freely (fig. 3).
Attach the joint bar to the hip module using the corresponding screws.
Important: Only slightly tighten the screws (fig. 4).
4.2 Applying the Hip Module
Loosen the six screws of the two lumbar braces (fig. 5) and slacken the pelvic belt. Next, apply
the hip module. The joint bar must coincide with the body's midline of the hip side. Verify that
the hip module properly contacts the hip crest and that the orthosis encompasses the body
symmetrically. Retighten the screws of the lumbar braces until they are snug, always beginning
with the center screw.
The connection strap must be positioned centrally. Cut off any excess pelvic strap. To prevent
the strap from fraying after cutting, it is recommended that you heat-seal the end using the flame
of a lighter.
4.3 Assembling the Thigh Module
Apply the thigh module and attach it to the joint bar using the corresponding screws. Verify the
correct position of the orthosis on the medial condyles. Check soft tissues at the proximal edge
of the thigh module. There should be a space of 3 to 4 finger widths between thigh and hip
module. Definitively secure the joint bar by snugly tightening the screws in the grooves of thigh
module and hip module. Adjust the two closures and shorten if required (see under point 4.2).
4.4 Adjusting the Abduction-Adduction Angle
Secure the abduction / adduction angle according to the physician's prescriptions by tighten-
ing the screw.
4.5 Information for Assembling the Orthosis on a Prone Patient
Measure the waist circumference. Halve the measurement and add 3 cm. This calculated meas-
urement corresponds to the exterior circumference of the orthosis: from the joint bar to the center
axis of the contralateral side.
Symmetrically adjust the lumbar braces according to this measurement. The markings on the
back part of the hip module will facilitate adjustment.
