3-9. Setting the correction function

The MJ500, MJ600, and MJ700 are provided with a function
for correcting the SIN-COS signal. Correction is performed
each time the encoder SIN signal or COS signal completes
one cycle.
By using the correction function on the DC offset, amplitude,
and phase of the encoder signal, deterioration of the division
accuracy (interpolation accuracy) due to variation over time
and adjustment error can be reduced. Each time a cycle of
the encoder signal is completed, correction is performed based
on the error of the previous cycle.

Notes when using the automatic correction function
. The automatic correction used in the MJ500, MJ600, and
MJ700 calculates the correction coefficient each time that
an encoder SIN signal or COS signal completes a cycle.
This correction coefficient is automatically backed up
whenever the power supply to the main unit is cut off.
When the power to the unit is turned on the next time, the
appropriate correction coefficient is calculated and
correction is performed.

In some cases, however, if the interpolator is connected
for the first time or the encoder is moved significantly
after the interpolator is turned off, the correction coefficient
may not match the SIN signal or COS signal of the current
position after the power is turned on, resulting in poor
division accuracy (interpolation accuracy). To remedy this,
idle the unit so that the encoder SIN signal and COS signal
travel about 10 to 20 cycles.
. After the power is turned on, if all of the indicator lamps
(LEDs) on the interpolator start flashing and an alarm
occurs in synchronization with this flashing, then the
backup data for correction has been corrupted. In this case,
turn the interpolator off and then on again, and idle the
unit so that the encoder SIN signal and COS signal travel
about 10 to 20 cycles.
If all of the indicator lamps (LEDs) on the interpolator
start flashing when the power is turned on again, contact
the service center listed on the back cover.
For more information about the correction function, see the
section "6. Correction Function".
n
For some input signals, the accuracy may deteriorate when
using the correction function. If poorer accuracy is obtained,
the correction function should be disabled.
