Slopes and ramps: The following instructions explain how to manoeuvre correctly on steep ramps and slopes,
especially in the course of descent. If you stop on an incline, start off slowly and, if necessary,
lean forward to counteract the tendency of the front wheels to rise. On descents it is important
not to alIow the wheelchair to exceed normal speed. Indeed, the safest course is to go down
steep hills slowly and to stop immediately if you have any doubts about the steering. If the
chair gathers speed, move the joystick to its central position to slow down, or stop completely.
Then start off again slowly and do not allow speed to increase.
Note: Make sure that the automatic brakes are engaged (freewheel device) when climbing or descending a slope.
Transfers:
Always position the wheelchair close to the place where the transfer will be carried out. It is important
that the controller is turned OFFs, so that the wheelchair will not move throughout the procedure.
Remove the armrest. The wheelchair is highly stable owing to its weight. Do not stand up on the
footplates at any time during the transfer.
Freewheel device (Fig. 8)
Turn outwards the lever on the back of each motor so that each drive wheel is in freewheel position and will turn
freely. If you wish to push the wheelchair with the motors off, you should follow this procedure with both wheels.
When the levers are turned inwards, the drive wheel will automatically connect with the propulsion mechanism.
Follow this procedure with both wheels.
2. Batteries
24V (2x12V) / 40 Amph. maintenance free
Dimensions: 197x165x170 mm.
Capacity at the discharge time: 34 Ah/5h.
Charging of batteries(Charger Specification): Only use chargers for cyclic batteries, Gel-Type with 24V/10A output
nominal max.: To charge batteries, connect the charger to the 230V (+15-10%), 50Hz mains, and then to the control.
Operation: When the charger has been connected to the power supply the red light will go on. Connect the charger
to the control and then the yellow light will illuminate. When the green light iluminates or flashes, this will indicate the
charging is complete. If the charger is not connnected to the control it does not provide charge current. It is possible
that the charger´s metallic box may slightly raise its temperature due to use.
General care of batteries
Avoid heavy discharges from the batteries. If you continue driving until the chair is virtually immobile, you will have
reduced the useful life of the batteries.
The batteries should never be left uncharged. A battery that remains uncharged for two weeks loses a certain
capacity that cannot be recovered later.
The batteries should always be charged completely.
Your batteries should be charged only by means of the charger supplied with the wheelchair. The battery needs
a "running-in» period over six/twelve charges; and will not attain to its maximum range until the end of this period.
It is better to limit the use of the wheelchair and the length of your trips until the batteries have been totally "run
in».
It is advisable to charge batteries every day, after using the wheelchair.
Range: Batteries give the chair a range of approximately 25 kilometres, depending on the weight of the user and
the terrain.
Do not leave the batteries exposed to environmental conditions such as rain, humidity, high temperatures or fire.
Check the conditions of the batteries and their conections to prevent from risks e.g. leaks
Safety guidelines for charging
The charger is designed for indoor use only. Do not use outdoors or expose to rain, snow, spray or moisture.
Suitable temperature for charging the batteries: -10ºC up to +40ºC
The use of an accessory that has not been sold by Sunrise Medical, or that does not have Sunrise Medicals
approval, may result in the risk of fire, electrocution, or personal injury.
Make sure the cable is laid out in such manner that it cannot be stepped on, that it cannot be tripped over, and at
it is not exposed to damage or stress.
Connector: 3 pins "Cannon " type
Charger: 24VDC 10 Amp
