3 Intended use

P
roPer use
1. The AQA perla is intended for the partial sof-
tening of drinking and service water. It is also
designed to prevent malfunction and damage
caused by calcification in water pipes and the
connected fittings, devices, boilers and other
equipment.
2. The performance specifications of the unit
must match the expected usage condi-
tions. Related information can be found in
DIN 1988-200 and in the technical specifica-
tions.
3. If the unit is intended for a commercial appli-
cation, a BWT consultant must conduct a test
and issue an approval.

4 Function

1. General
1.1 The AQA perla is a duplex water softener that
functions using ion exchange. It is filled with
organic ion exchange material.
1.2 Softened water is available during a regenera-
tion process.
1.3 Regeneration is triggered volumetrically (de-
pending on the quantity of water). This means
that no remaining supply of softened water is
discarded during regeneration.
2. Operation
2.1 The mode of operation is consumption depen-
dent. The ion exchange columns are perfused
on an alternating basis. This alternation maxi-
mises softened water availability and minimi-
ses stagnation in the columns.
2.2 High-flow operation
The regeneration parameters can be changed
in the technician set-up to allow the unit to
handle higher flow rates, as required for rain
showers for example (see technical specifica-
tions for high-flow operation)
2.3 The settings are retained in the event of a po-
wer failure during operation.
The date and time are stored for at least
5 years.
3. Regeneration
3.1 A precision brine meter measures out the brine
required.
3.2 The unit is equipped with a device that disin-
fects the ion exchange material during rege-
neration.
3.3 Measurement data recording during brine
extraction allows the regeneration process to
adapt to current pressure ratios and keep salt
and regeneration water consumption to the
necessary minimum.
3.4 A special salt dissolution and brine cavity
within the regenerative container is used to
achieve the shortest salt dissolution times,
and therefore extremely short regeneration
intervals.
