5.1

Flash upgrades

The KVM s3-1621 appliance Flash upgrade feature is used to update the appliances
with the latest firmware available. This update can be performed using the KVM s3
Client, Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) target server or File transfer protocol (FTP)
target server. After the Flash memory is reprogrammed with the upgrade, the KVM s3-
1621 appliance performs a soft reset, which terminates all KVM-IA sessions. A target
server experiencing a KVM-IA firmware update might not be visible or might be listed as
disconnected. The target server opens normally when the Flash update is completed.
During an upgrade, the KVM-IA status indicator in the OSCAR interface Main window
is yellow.
If using IPv4 mode, you may use either a TFTP server or an FTP
server. If using IPv6 mode, you must use an FTP server. To upgrade
the firmware, you need to know the IP address of the server, the
filename of the firmware FLASH file, and, if using an FTP server, the
username and password for the FTP server. You will also need to
make sure that the file is in the appropriate folder.

Upgrading the firmware using the KVM s3 Client

The preferred method for updating the firmware is to use the KVM s3 Client. See the
KVM s3 Client Installation and User's Guide for detailed instructions. If you do not have
a TFTP server, you can find several shareware and freeware programs on the Internet
that you can download and install.
5.1.2

Upgrading the firmware using the Console menu

Go to http://ts.fujitsu.com/support/ and download the latest Flash firmware. Save
the Flash upgrade file to the correct directory on the applicable FTP or TFTP target
device.
Use the supplied Null-Modem serial cable to connect a computer running terminal
emulation software to the configuration port on the rear panel of the KVM s3-1621
appliance. The terminal should be set to 9600 bps, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and
no flow control.
If the KVM s3-1621 appliance is not on, turn it on now. After approximately one
minute, press any key to access the Console Main menu.
After the Console Main menu opens, select the Firmware Management option. The
current version of the firmware is opened on the Firmware Management menu.
Type 1 to select FLASH Download (TFTP) or type 2 to select FLASH Download
(FTP).
Type the IP address of the TFTP or FTP target device and press Enter.
Type the name of the Flash file and press Enter.
If using an FTP server, type the FTP server username and password and press
Enter.
