• Currents > 40 A will lead to damage to the leakage cur-
rent tester.
• The measuring instrument should not be used in spaces
or under adverse environmental conditions, in which in-
flammable gases, fumes or dust are present or can occur.
Avoid operation in the immediate vicinity of:
a) strong magnetic fields (loudspeakers or magnets),
b) electromagnetic fields (transformers, motors, coils, relays,
contactors, electromagnets, etc.),
c) electrostatic fields (charge/discharge),
d) transmission aerials or HF generators.
• Do not use the current clamp shortly before, during or
shortly after a storm (Lightning strike! / high energy over-
voltages!). Care should be taken that hands, shoes, cloth-
ing, the floor, the measuring device and test leads, switch-
es and circuits etc. are absolutely dry.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possi-
ble, then the device must be switched off and protected
against unintentional operation. It can be assumed that
safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the unit shows visible signs of damage,
- the unit no longer functions and
- after prolonged storage under unfavourable conditions or
- after severe transportation stresses.
• Correct functioning of the leakage current tester is guaran-
teed only at ambient temperatures from +0°C to +45°C
(+32°F to +113°F).
• Never switch the measuring instrument on immediately af-
ter it has been brought from a cold into a warm area. The
resulting condensation water could damage the instru-
ment. Allow the unit to come to room temperature before
switching it on.
• Do not allow the packaging material to lie around unsuper-
vised; plastic film / bags, expanded polystyrene parts, etc.,
can become dangerous playthings for children.
Functional description
The Leakage Current Tester model 157 is a combination of a
clamp ammeter and a 3 3/4-digit digital multimeter.
