q) Wind chill temperature, heat index and dewpoint temperature displays

Briefly push the button " " (7), to switch between display of the wind chill temperature, the heat index and
the dew point temperature.
• Wind chill temperature, symbol "WIND CHILL"
This temperature value is calculated from the interrelation of temperature and wind speed. For tempera-
tures below +10 °C, higher wind speeds mean that the temperature perceived on the human skin is lower
than the actual temperature.
Example: Present outdoor temperature -20 °C, wind chill temperature -34 °C at a wind speed of 40 km/h.
• Heat index, symbol "HEAT INDEX"
The heat index describes the perceived temperature based on the air temperature and relative humidity
measured. In addition to the temperature, the humidity also affects the human organism and thus our
heat perception.
At a high humidity, a temperature of, e.g., +35 °C, is perceived to be "hotter" than at low humidity.
The reason for this is that high temperatures and high humidity inhibit the heat regulation of the human
body by perspiration (e.g. in tropical areas). In contrast, high temperatures and low humidity (e.g. in a
desert) permit good heat regulation by sweating.
At an average humidity, the heat index therefore shows about the same temperature as the dis-
play of the indoor or outdoor temperature.
At high temperature and high humidity, the heat index shows a higher value (e.g.: Outdoor temperature
+27 °C, humidity 70%: Heat index approx. +29.5 °C; the human body perceives the temperature as hotter
than it actually is).
At high temperature and low humidity, the heat index shows a lower value.
• Dewpoint indoors, symbol "IN DOOR DEWPOINT"
The dew point is a temperature point that depends on the correspondence of a certain barometric pres-
sure, a certain temperature and a certain humidity.
At this temperature point, humidity in the air starts to condensate, which is called dewing. Humidity
condensates and precipitates and liquid (mist, vapour).
If the dew point for steam is below 0 °C, condensation occurs as slow or hoarfrost.
