5.5 Measuring the material humidity with temperature compensation
Wood and other building materials exhibit a different conductivity at different temperatures. To attain even
more exact measuring results with the Dew Check, it is possible to incorporate the temperature of the mea-
sured material in the humidity measurement with the HPM 3000+.
Measurements at high air humidity (above 80 % rel. humidity) should be avoided, as potential condensation
will distort the conductivity measurment.
If the temperature of the measured building material is below the dew point temperature, there is a risk of
condensation distorting the conductivity measurement.
Pressing the [down arrow] key with the HPM 3000+ takes you to the measuring program for measuring
the material moisture with temperature compensation. The information on the screen reminds you that the
displayed measuring values are only correct at simultaneous measurement of material moisture (with the
measuring needles) and the temperature (with the infrared temperature sensor). Confi rm this information by
pressing the [OK] key.
Now disengage the measuring head of the HPM 3000+ and insert it in the material to be measured. Now
position the infrared sensor on the material to be measured.
The upper half of the display shows the measured temperature while the lower half of the display shows the
measured material moisture
If an [!] and a [T] are displayed next to the measuring value, this means that the measured material tempe-
rature is below the dew point. Condensation results on the object surface.
Repeatedly pressing the [down arrow] key will take you to the Standard menu.

Solution
Wait until the measuring value of the
air temperature has stabilised.
Reduce the distance of the sensor to
the object.
Pull out the sensor and insert it again
after several seconds.
Pull out the sensor, remove the batte-
ries from the HPM 3000+ and replace
with new batteries.
