Use a STIHL filing gauge to check the height of the depth
gauges (1). The STIHL filing gauge must match the chain
pitch.
►
If a depth gauge (1) projects from the filing gauge (2):
Lower the depth gauge (1), @ 17.3.

Make sure the service marks (1 to 4) on the cutters are
visible.
►
If one of the service marks is not visible on a cutter:
Contact your STIHL servicing dealer.

Use a STIHL filing gauge to check the filing angles on the
cutters, @ 19.4. The STIHL filing gauge must match the
chain pitch.
►
If the filing angles are not correct: Sharpen the chain,
@ 19.4.
►
If you have any queries: Contact your STIHL servicing
dealer.

11.4 Testing the chain brake
►
Engage the chain brake, @ 8.1.
►
Remove the battery, @ 9.2.
WARNING
The chain's cutters are very sharp. This can result in personal
injury.
►
Wear work gloves made of durable material.
►
Try to pull the chain along the guide bar by hand.
If the chain cannot be pulled along the bar by hand, the
chain brake is functioning.
►
If the chain can be pulled along the bar by hand: Contact
your STIHL servicing dealer.
The chain brake is defective.
11.5 Checking the controls
►
Engage the chain brake, @ 8.1.
►
Remove the battery, @ 9.2.
►
Try to pull the trigger.
►
If the trigger can be pulled: Contact your STIHL servicing
dealer.
The lockout button is faulty.
►
Depress the lockout button and hold it in that position.
►
Pull the trigger and then let it go.
►
If the trigger is stiff or does not spring back to its idle
position: Contact your STIHL servicing dealer.
The trigger has a malfunction.
►
Fit the battery, @ 9.1.
►
Disengage the chain brake, @ 8.2.
