Operating Instructions
Diesel locomotive Köf II – HO
They are used for shunting and hand-over journeys. They are used
to operate industrial tracks and works traffic in running sheds and
railway repair workshops. They are the small helpers at nearly
every station – and the big stars at Brawa. For over 30 years, the
Köf classics and limited special editions have been available for
collectors in the Brawa program. Whether on model railways or in
the showcase: Without the little Köf, which has been in service
since the 1930s, many stations could not have operated.
Köf II DR (Deutsche Reichsbahn) closed
In 1932, the Deutsche Reichsbahn company and the supply
companies Krauss-Mafei, Deutz, Jung and O&K formed a working
group to develop the basic plans for a uniform small locomotive of
the performance group II Kö/Köf. Series production started in
1933. 890 locomotives were manufactured for DR (Deutsche
Reichsbahn) by 1939.
Köf II DB (Deutsche Bundesbahn) closed
The purchasing period by DR/DB, which lasted between 1933 and
1965, is extraordinarily long. Diverse versions of this small
workhorse were developed over these 32 years. From 1970
onwards, the vehicles were retrofitted with windows and doors to
make them winter proof.
Köf II DB (Deutsche Bundesbahn) open
After the second world war, DB took over 444 Köf II. However, the
demand was so high that between 1948 and 1965 a further 735
units of the sturdy small locomotive were purchased. Good design,
tried and tested in operation and cheap output and consumption
values – there were many reasons why rail companies could rely
on the Köf.
