Step Tubes

Step tubes are used by attendants to push a wheelchair over an
obstacle. Simply step on the tube to push a wheelchair, for
example, over a kerb or step, (Fig. 6.9).
CAUTION!
Sunrise Medical strongly
reccommends the use of a step
tube on any model where
attendant use is the predominant
intended use. Damage to the
backposts may occur if you
constantly use the backpost
without a step tube, as a lever to
pull back on to tip the wheelchair.

Footplates

Footplates (Fig. 6.10)
There are two types of footplates:
platform and divided. They can be
flipped up to facilitate getting in and
get ting out of your wheelchair.
Lower leg lengths
By removing the setscrews (1),
the footrest can be adjusted to fit
any lower leg length. Remove
setscrews, set tubing with footrest in the desired position, and
reinsert and tighten the setscrews (see the page on torque).
Make sure that the composite plastic pad is in the proper
position under the setscrew. A minimum interval of 2.5
centimeters from the ground should always be maintained.
The screws used are fitted with threadlock at the factory and
can be adjusted 5 x after fitting. After that they should be
replaced or alternatively re-secured with threadlock to medium
tightness.
Width Adjustment of Aluminium
Footrests
If the footrest width needs to be
adjusted, please undo the screw
(1), set the desired width, by
positioning 1, 2 or 3 spacers (2)
from outer to the inner side and
then refit the screws, (Fig. 6.11).
Footboard lock
The footplate locks in automatically
when flipped down. To flip it up the
release knob (1) must be pulled
(Fig. 6.12). To keep the unlocked
position turn knob 1 when it is
pulled.
WARNING:
Always make sure to unlock the system to get full functionality!

Angle Adjustment of Aluminium Footboard
The footboard can be flipped up to make it easier to transfer to
and from the chair, (Fig. 6.13 - 6.15).
This can be adjusted to alter the angle to the ground.
Tighten screw (1) on the outside. By loosening the clips (2) the
footboard can be moved to three positions both forwards and
backwards. To do this, the footboard must be flipped up. Make
sure that after any adjustment work, all screws are tightened
correctly (see the page on torque). Ensure that you maintain the
minimum gap to the floor (25mm).

Angle-Adjustment of Composite
Footrest (Fig. 6.16).
This can be adjusted to alter the
angle to the ground. Release
screw, pull it inwards, set the
desired angle and then push it on.
After making the adjustment,
re-tighten the screw. Make sure
that after any adjustment work, all
screws are tightened correctly (see
the page on torque).
Ensure that you maintain the
minimum gap to the floor (25mm) (Fig. 6.15).
Hanger and Latch
The legrests can be swung inwards under the seat sling or
outwards.
When fitting the legrests, the footrests must be pointing inwards
or outwards. Then rotate the legrest inwards, until it locks into
place. To remove, pull the lever (1), swing the hanger inwards
or outwards and then lift the legrest out. Make sure that the
legrest is locked into place correctly (Fig. 6.17 - 6.18).
