Fuselage
Fitting the canopy
First drill the two 3mm holes marked on the side into the canopy frame. (Picture 9)
Now align the canopy frame symmetrically on the fuselage. Make sure that there is the same distance all around. Then clamp the
frame to the fuselage using clamps or small screw clamps. Now you can drill the holes through the fuselage. Each drilled hole can
now be fitted with one of the enclosed dowel pins to prevent it from slipping. (Picture 10)
Finally, you can drill the front hole through the frame and the fuselage.
Please make sure that the angle is relatively flat. (Picture 11)
Then glue in the ground and greased bolts. Then file out the hole a little towards the back so that the bolt can engage better (picture
12).
When all the bolts are glued and the canopy frame is in place, fix it again with clamps and drill the 1.5mm hole for the locking wire.
This hole can be drilled in the centre of the fuselage seam or off-centre as shown in the picture. Off-centre is strongly recommended
when using a folding impeller. (Picture 13)
Then drill the 1.5mm hole under the end rail.
You may have to rework it a little with a small round file. (Picture 14)
Now you can cut the 3mm plastic tube to length and thread it onto the spring steel wire.
If necessary, the spring steel wire has to be bent into shape before mounting.
When everything is in place, glue the plastic tube at both ends. Before doing so, sand both the plastic tube and the inside of the
fuselage. (Picture 15)
After the glue has dried, check the function of the canopy latch and adjust it if necessary.
If everything works, the canopy can finally be fitted. If the frame lifts or does not fit 100%, use the clamps again. (The gluing of the
canopy glass holds the frame in position). (Picture 16)
To prevent the frame from sticking to the fuselage, treat it thoroughly with release wax. Before doing this, the fuselage can also be
masked with tape.
Check the fit of the canopy glass, here the CNC milled edge (90°) in the front and rear area must be adjusted slightly if necessary.
(Picture 17/18)
Before the glass is finally glued, grind an approx. 5mm wide edge on the inside. (Picture 19)
Afterwards we recommend to tape the canopy glass completely from the outside. Mark the fuselage seam at the front and rear of the
canopy glass and place it dry on the fuselage for the last time.
Now sand the canopy frame as well. If there is a step between the canopy glass and the fuselage, take small, thin plates and glue
them to the canopy frame with secondary glue. (Picture 20)
When everything fits, pour thickened, non-running 24h resin (e.g.: using cotton flocks and Tixotropic agent) into a piping bag and
draw a line along the lower edge of the canopy frame. (picture 21)
Now carefully place the canopy glass on the fuselage, to do this carefully bend it up the side with both hands and place it on the fra-
me flush with the fuselage seam using the two positioners. Now you can only make minimal corrections. When everything is aligned
properly, fix the glass with tape to prevent it from slipping. (Picture 22)
After the resin has cured, the clamps can be removed through the connector cut-out with the help of a stick. (Picture 23)
When the canopy is removed, the burr should be carefully removed, for this we recommend the use of 400 wet sandpaper. If there
are cavities in the visible gap area, they should be filled and then sanded again. The last step is to tape off a 13mm edge and paint
it. For this we recommend a 2k spray can in RAL 9003 (picture 24). Alternatively you can also foil the edge, for this we recommend
(Oracal 751C 010 white).
