Performing inhalation

• Hold the nebuliser handset in your
hand.
• Sit in an upright position and relax. This
makes inhaling easier and improves
deposition of the medication in the res-
piratory tract.
• Hold the mouthpiece between your
teeth and enclose with your lips. The
lips should not touch the blue expiratory
valve:
• Press the ON/OFF button on the control
unit to start producing the aerosol.
A green LED beside the ON/OFF button
lights up and an audible signal (1 beep)
is emitted to indicate proper functioning.

• Inhale and exhale as slowly and deeply
as possible through the mouthpiece or
mask.
The mouthpiece can also remain in the
mouth while exhaling. Do not breathe
through your nose. You may use a nose
clip if your doctor agrees.
Note:
It is normal for aerosol to escape
through the expiratory valve in the
mouthpiece during exhalation; this
is not a malfunction.

Inhalation with mask

Inhalation with the mouthpiece is the most
effective form of inhalation, since it results
in minimum medication loss on the way to
the lung. The PARI SMARTMASK

SORIES) is recommended only for pa-
tients who are unable to inhale with a
mouthpiece.
• Put the mask on so that it forms an air-
tight seal over the mouth and nose.

• Perform the inhalation as described in
Section "Performing inhalation"
(Chapter INHALATION).
