HYGIENIC REPROCESSING

5

General

Warning:
- To prevent any health risk, e.g. infection
from a contaminated nebuliser handset,
it is imperative to comply with the follow-
ing hygiene instructions.
- Before cleaning, switch the device off
and remove the power adapter from the
socket.
®
The eFlow
rapid is designed for multiple
uses. Be aware that different require-
ments regarding hygienic reprocessing
are in effect for different fields of
application:
- At home (single patient use): The neb-
uliser handset (including the aerosol
head must be cleaned immediately after
each use and disinfected at the end of
the day.
- Hospital/medical practice (possible
change in patient): The nebuliser hand-
set (incl. aerosol head) must be
cleaned, disinfected and sterilised
before every use.
If several different medications are to be
inhaled successively as part of the inhala-
tion treatment, the following should also
be noted:
All medication residue must be rinsed out
of the nebuliser handset with warm,
running tap water after every application.
This helps to prevent undesirable cross-
reactions between medication residues.
®
eFlow
rapid - 03/12
After the last application in each session,
the nebuliser handset must be cleaned,
disinfected at least once a day, and also
sterilised if it is to be used for another pa-
tient. This is essential to prevent the
growth of bacteria.
Additional requirements concerning the
necessary hygienic preparations (hand
care, handling of medications or inhalation
solutions) in high-risk groups (e.g. patients
with cystic fibrosis) can be obtained from
the respective self-help groups.
Please ensure adequate drying after each
cleaning, disinfection and/or sterilisation.
Condensation or residual wetness may
present a risk due to the growth of
bacteria.
Proof of suitability of the nebuliser handset
for effective cleaning, disinfection and
sterilisation has been obtained through an
independent testing laboratory using the
recommended procedures. Using the indi-
cated alternatives remains the responsi-
bility of the user.
Please check the parts of the nebuliser
handset regularly and replace any defec-
tive (broken, misshapen, discoloured)
parts. Replace the nebuliser handset at
least every year and the aerosol head at
least every six months (see Section "Life
cycle", Chapter IMPORTANT INFORMA-
TION).
