3 Installation
The CANVXCJP interface can be mounted out of sight in a not perma-
nently accessible, ventilated, location.
3.1 Connecting the CAN bus cables
Refer to the CAN bus principle diagram on page 61 for connecting
the CANVXCJP.
The CAN bus power supply must always be connected to
12 Volt (≥10 V, ≤16 V).
The maximum CAN-line length is 40 metres. Use the VETUS
CANrepeater (CANR) to extend the cable length.
If a DC/DC converter is used to power the CAN bus system,
ensure that the minus terminals of both input and output are,
or can be, jumpered. If in doubt, contact the converter supplier.
Refer to the appropriate bow or stern thruster installation manual
for detailed CAN-bus diagrams and con guration of a bow or
stern thruster.
3.2 Connecting the joystick
Refer to the installation diagram on page 61
The supplied wiring harness is suitable for connecting one CANVX-
CJP control interface and one VETUS joystick. If a multi-joystick sys-
tem is used, a separate CANVXCJP control interface must be installed
for each joystick.
Connect the large connector of the wiring harness to the CANVXCJP
and the small connector to the VETUS joystick.
4 Checking/test running and
con guring the control panels
4.1 General
Check whether the system is connected correctly. Then switch on the
CAN-bus supply voltage and the supply voltage of the bow and/or
stern thruster.
4.2 Switch on control interface
Switch on the battery main switch. The system is now 'standby' .

• Press the 'ON/OFF' button
on the joystick.
You will hear a repeating signal, di-di-di ( . . . ). Within 6 seconds, the
'ON/OFF' button must be pressed for the second time. The buzzer
con rms with a signal, dahdidah (- . -), that the control interface is
ready for use.
4.3 Switching control interface
To transfer control in a system with multiple control interfaces, follow
the instructions described in section 4.2.
4.4 Switch o control interface
Press and hold the 'ON/OFF' button until you hear the signal, di-di-di-
dah-dah ( . . . - - ). The control interface is switched o .
• When disembarking, switch o the battery main switch.
4.5 Checking thrust direction
The direction of movement of the boat must match the di-
rection of movement of the joystick. You must check this for
EVERY CANXVCJP control interface! Do this carefully and in a
safe location.
• If the movement of the boat is opposite to the direction in which
the joystick is moved, this must be corrected as shown in 4.7.
4.6 Restoring factory settings
Switch o all control interfaces (see 4.4). On the control interface to
be restored, perform the following operations:
1. Press and hold the 'ON/OFF' button for 30 seconds.
2. After 30 seconds, the signal sounds, dah-di-di-di-dah ( - . . . - ).
Now release the 'ON/OFF' button.
3. Press the 'ON/OFF' button once. The signal, dah ( - ) sounds. The
factory settings of this control interface are restored.
