USING BEAM
AND ALIGNING SHARPENER

The Sparx BEAM
is used to ensure your Sparx Sharpener is
TM
perfectly aligned. This step is important for your first sharpening
and future sharpenings to make sure you are consistently aligned.
The Sparx Sharpener comes out of the box aligned in the factory,
but it is important to check your alignment using the Sparx BEAM
and Calibration Steel to ensure your machines are fully aligned.
Using the Sparx BEAM and Calibration Steel is the recommended
way to ensure your Sparx Sharpener(s) are properly aligned.
Another option of aligning your Sparx Sharpener is using the
Optical Alignment Kit as explained in the next step.

INSTALL A GRINDING RING
While holding the
Grinding Ring Arbor
Ring
(B), any Grinding Ring will work, on the
Arbor
(C), label facing out, and replace and tighten the
Nut
(A) until hand-tight . Close the

SHARPEN CALIBRATION STEEL
Find your Calibration Steel (A) and insert your Calibration
Steel into the included Blade Holder (B). Press and hold down
the Clamp Lever (C) to open the Skate Clamp (D). Set the
Blade Holder into the Skate Clamp slot letting the Blade Holder
rest on top of the clamps. Release the Clamp Lever. Sharpen
the Calibration Steel with 12 Finish Ring Cycles or 3 XG Cycles
+ 3 Finish Ring Cycles, make sure to confirm XG and Finish Ring
compatibility.

DEBUR THE CALIBRATION STEEL
Take your steel out of the sharpener and deburr each side of the
steel (A) with the Honing Stone (B) to ensure a proper reading.

READING THE BEAM
Flick the tilt bar up and down to ensure it's settled on the steel.
The three lights on the front of the BEAM will show an even
edge or direct you which side of the edge is high. Head to the
Sparx Hockey app for an exact reading and recommendations.
