13. Terms

Resolution: Serves to indicate how many single dots ("pixels") can be repre-
sented on the display. Standard resolutions of a PC VGA graphic
adapter are, e.g. 640*480, 800*600, 1024*768, however, with hig-
her-value and higher-priced graphic adapters, also 1280*1024
and 1600*1200.
The first figure indicates how many dots the horizontal line com-
prises, i.e. from left to right.
The second figure indicates how many dots the vertical line com-
prises, i.e. from top to bottom.
Frame frequency: Also called "image refresh frequency", this term indicates how
many times per second the VGA image is built-up by the VGA
adapter. Thus, a 75Hz frame frequency means that the visible
image is built-up 75 times by the VGA adapter within a second.
Refer also to "line frequency".
Modern graphic adapters provide extremely high frame frequen-
cies, so that very expensive monitors may be required for repre-
sentation.
OSD: On-Screen display; the setting options (e.g. width and height of
image or the screen) appear on the screen. This facilitates setting.
Line frequency: Indicates the number of lines per second which the electron
beam in the monitor represents on the screen. With a resolution
of 640*480 dots, this figure is 480 lines. However, calculation is
not yet finished, as the 480 lines apply only to ONE image.
However, the image is built-up e.g. 75 times per second (see fra-
me frequency). Now, we have got 480*75 lines, i.e. 36000 lines.
As the electron beam takes some time to "return", a correction
factor must be taken into consideration. This correction factor is
approx. 1.05.
Thus, in the case of a resolution of 640*480 and a frame frequen-
cy of 75Hz, the line frequency amounts to:
480*75*1.05=37800Hz, i.e. 37.8kHz.
This means that the monitor's specifications must be designed so
that the representation of a frame frequency of 75Hz must be
possible, as well as a line frequency of 37.8 kHz.
If one of these two values is exceeded by the settings in your
operating system (the line frequency depends on the resolution),
the monitor can be damaged.

Utilisation conforme à l'affectation:
Le moniteur sert à la représentation d'un signal VGA compatible qui est émis par une
carte graphique VGA d'un ordinateur PC compatible.
Le moniteur est en mesure de représenter différents formats d'image (par exemple
640*480 points, 800*600 ou 1024*768 points) avec différentes fréquences de répéti-
tion d'image (par exemple 60, 70 ou 75Hz) dans la mesure où les limites techniques
et les spécifications de ce moniteur ne sont pas dans ce cas dépassées.
Une utilisation n'est autorisée que dans des espaces fermés, c'est-à-dire pas en
plein air. Le contact avec de l'humidité, par exemple dans une salle de bains entre
autres, doit absolument être évité.
