Set the TAPE SELECT

switch according to the
use shown
in the tape list.
For recording with the
Dolby NR process, set the
DOLBY
NR switch to ON.
For recording without the
Dolby NR process, set it
to OFF.
To stop the tape, press
the STOP button.
While holding the RECORD
button depressed, depress

the FWD
button. Recording
will begin.
@ At the end of the tape, the tape motion stops and the locked buttons are released
automatically.
RECOMMENDED SETTINGS OF THE TAPE SELECT
SWITCH
Set the TAPE SELECT
switch according to the type of
tape being used. When
this switch is set to the appro-
priate position, the optimum equalization and bias cur-
rent settings are provided for recording and playback.
The following recommended
settings have been deter-
mined
by critical listening tests and measurements
of
the electrical characteristics of commercially
available
cassettes.
When
a TYPE
II or TYPE
IV cassette
having detector
slots is inserted,
the correct
equalization
characteris-
tics and
optimum
bias current
are automatically
set,
and an orange mark appears in the window.
For Sony cassettes,
be sure to use the recommended
settings to obtain the optimum tape characteristics.
Note
Use of the metal
tape cassette,
which
does
not have
detector siots, is not recommended
with the TC-D5M.

compartment

the cassette properly.
Close the lid.
Side to be recorded faces up.
Tape surface is forwards.
