Rewind
Button ([REW <4}: Depress to rewind the tape
rapidly.

stop
the
tape
for a moment
during
recording
or playback,
depress
this
button.
Also
use
this
button
for an
accurate
start
of re-
cording.

To
stop
the
tape
for an
extended
time,
use
the
STOP button.
@ MONITOR
LEVEL Control: Turn to adjust the head-
phones
volume
both
in
the
record
and
playback
modes, and the built-in speaker volume in the playback
mode.
This
control
has
no
effect
on
the
recording
being made.
@ HEADPHONES
Jack
(stereo
binaural
jack):
To
monitor the input signals to be recorded or to listen to
a recording
in playback
mode,
connect
stereo
head-
phones
to this jack. When
the
headphones
are
con-
nected while playing back, the speaker will be discon-
nected.
© Recording Indicator [REC] (LED): Lights up when the
RECORD
button
is depressed.
If the batteries become
weak
during
battery operation,
the indicator will glow
faintly.
@ Battery
Check/Meter
Light
Button
[BATT
CHECK/
LIGHT}:
When
this
button
is
pressed
while
the
recorder is in operation, the VU meters are illuminated.
The
meters
are
lit for about
10
seconds
after
the
button is released.
When
this button
is pressed
during battery operation,
the left meter shows the battery condition.

® PEAK
Level Indicator (LED): in the record mode, the
indicator follows the short, high-level pulses which the
VU meters cannot follow.
@ VU Meters:
The meters
show
the input level in the
record
mode
and
the
recorded
level
in the
playback
mode. The left meter also functions as a battery check
meter.
® Recording
Level Controls [REC LEVEL]: Adjust the
recording
level. The concentric
knobs can regulate the
right- and
left-channel
levels
simultaneously
or inde-
pendently. The inner knob is for the right channel
and
the outer for the left channel.
@® LIMITER Switch: Use this switch when
recording
programs containing high level bursts of sounds which
might
cause
distortion.
After
setting
the
recording
level, set this switch to ON.
® Metal
Fitting for Shoulder
Strap: To attach
the
shoulder strap, refer to the illustration on page 13.
@ MICROPHONE
Jacks
(phone jacks): Any low-impe-
dance microphone equipped with a phone plug may be
used. If your microphone
is equipped
with a minipltug,
a plug adaptor
for converting
to phone
plug (like the
Sony PC-2A, optional) is required.
@ Microphone
Attenuator
Switch
[MIC ATT]:
Normally
set this switch to the 0 dB position. Set it to the 20 dB
position
to
avoid
overloading
the
amplifier
of
the
recorder,
when
you
make a
live recording
with
high
input signals.
® Line Input Jacks [LINE IN] (phono jacks): For record-
ing from another tape deck, tuner or turntable system
connected to an amplifier.
® Line Output
Jacks
[LINE OUT] (phono
jacks):
For
playing
back
the
sound
of this
recorder
through
an
amplifier
or
for tape
duplication
onto
another
tape
recorder.
@ External Power Input Jack [DC IN 6 VJ]: For operation
from an external power source.
@ Battery Compartment
