STEP 6 – SETTING THE RIGHT GRIND
When setting the grind it should be fine but not
too fine or powdery. The grind will effect the rate
at which the water flows through the coffee in
the filter and therefore the taste of the coffee.
You can choose from 18 settings. The lower the
number, the finer the grind will be. In the setting
„FINE", it is at its finest. The higher the number,
the coarser the grind will be. In the setting
„COARSE", it is at its coarsest. We recommend
starting off at the setting „5" and, if need be,
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE FOR SETTING THE GRIND SIZE:
Only adjust grind size while the grinder is running or if there are no beans in the hopper. The
reason why: After grinding, partly ground beans might get stuck between the grinder discs. If
the grinder discs are then moved to change the grind size, these beans might jam the grinder
discs. This is why the fine adjustment should only be done while the grinder is running.
adjusting the grind size depending on the type of
coffee used and your personal taste.
If the grind is too fine (looks like powder and
feels like flour when rubbed between fingers),
the water will not flow through the coffee even
when under pressure. The resulting coffee will
be over extracted, too dark and bitter, with a
mottled and uneven crema on top.
If the grind is too coarse the water will flow through
the coffee too quickly. This will result in an under-
extracted coffee lacking in flavour and without
the thick crema on the top layer of coffee.
