f) Contact-free voltage detection

A contact-free voltage detector is installed in the measuring device.
With alternate voltage, the detector works in a range from 100 to
600 V, even when the measuring device is turned off.
The voltage sensor is located on the
top of the device.
The detector serves to find cable
breaks in live cables, for example.
Guide the measuring device along
the object to be tested with the sen-
sor surface.
If alternate voltage is detected, the NCV display (5) lights up.
The possible distance depends on the alternate voltage quantity.
The voltage detector only serves for fast tests and
does not replace contact voltage measuring.
The display also reacts in case of static charges, as
the detector detects an electric field. This is normal
and not a defect.
