Using and caring for the hob

Using and caring for the hob

Requirements for safe use

– You have read the chapter 'Safety notices'
at the beginning of this user manual.
– The hob is set up, installed and connected
as described in the relevant chapters in this
user manual.
Handling glass ceramic
correctly
Your hob is made of glass ceramic and has
clearly recognisable cooking zones. In order
to ensure that the glass ceramic lasts a long
time and is not damaged, it is essential to
care for and maintain the hob and to use the
correct cookware.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock!
Touching live parts may result in severe
injury or death.
■ If the surface is cracked, switch off the
appliance to avoid the possibility of
electric shock (switch off or unscrew
the fuse). Water that runs through
cracks inside the glass ceramic hob
may be live. Contact our Service Cen-
tre.
NOTICE
Risk of damage!
Improper handling of the hob may re-
sult in damage.
■ Do not push heavy cookware across
the hob. The glass ceramic may be-
come scratched.
■ Wipe the hob and the base of the
pots prior to use to wipe away any
dirt which may cause scratches.
■ Use the hob as a work surface or to
place objects on only once it has com-
pletely cooled off. Otherwise, materi-
als sensitive to heat, such as plastic
dishes, could become damaged.

The right cookware

d2
d1
The best thing to use is cookware for electric
hobs
– of a size that corresponds to the size of
the cooking zones. The diameter d1 is al-
ways given as the size of the pot or pan.
Base diameter d2 is always around 2 cm
smaller. Pots that are too big can damage
paintwork.
– with a completely flat bottom, if necessary
with a slight bulge on the inside (the base
expands when heated). This allows heat to
be transferred more effectively and more
quickly.
– with a sufficiently thick base, for example
enamelled steel pans with 2–3 mm and
stainless steel pans with 4–6 mm, which
can be identified by the label 'Base thick-
ness in line with DIN 44904' [bottom thick-
ness according to DIN 44904].
Energy- and time-saving pressure
– cookers are also well-suited. The relative-
ly high purchase costs are quickly saved
again.
– Steel pots and pans as well as coated and
uncoated aluminium cookware with a thick
base. However, coated cookware must not
be overheated or scratched.
