The theoretical field strength of fixed trans-
mitters such as radio telephone and mobile
agricultural radio equipment base stations,
amateur radio transmitters, AM and FM ra-
dio and TV transmitters cannot be precisely
determined in advance. In order to deter-
mine the electromagnetic environment in
respect of fixed transmitters, a study of the
location should be considered. If the meas-
ured field strength at the location of the
THERA-vital exceeds the compliance lev-
els, the THERA-vital should be observed to
verify that it is functioning as intended. If
unusual performance characteristics are
observed, additional measures may be re-
quired such as modifying or changing the
location of the THERA-vital.
Above the frequency range of 150 kHz to
80 MHz the field strength should be less
than 3 V/m.
Recommended safe distances between portable and mobile equipment,
high-frequency telecommunications equipment and the THERA-vital
The THERA-vital is intended for operation in the electromagnetic environment specified below.
The THERA-vital owner or user can help to prevent electromagnetic interference by observing
the minimum distances between portable and mobile high-frequency telecommunications
equipment (transmitters) and the THERA-vital as specified below (according to the output
power of the communication device).

For transmitters whose rated output is not specified in the above table, the distance can be de-
termined using the appropriate equation in each case and in which P is the rated output of the
transmitter in watts (W) as stated by the transmitter manufacturer.
NOTE 1 :
For calculating the recommended safe distance from transmitters within the frequency range
of 80 MHz to 2.5 GHz an additional factor of 10/3 was applied. That reduces the likelihood that
a mobile/portable communications device inadvertently brought into the patient area will cause
interference.
NOTE 2:
This guidance may not be applicable in all cases. The propagation of electromagnetic energy
is affected by absorption and reflection by buildings, objects and people.
