Two or three strokes with a file are usually sufficient for
r o u t i n e r e s h a r p e n i n g . W h e n t h e s a w c h a i n h a s b e e n
r e s h a r p e n e d s e v e r a l t i m e s , h a v e i t s h a r p e n e d i n o u r
a u t h o r i z e d s e r v i c e c e n t e r .
Sharpening criteria:
WARNING:
An excessive distance between
the cutting edge and depth gauge increases the
risk of kickback.

— All cutter length must be equal. Different cutter

— Use a suitable round file so that the proper sharp-
e n i n g a n g l e i s k e p t a g a i n s t t h e t e e t h .

File and file guiding
— Use a special round file (optional accessory) for
s a w c h a i n s t o s h a r p e n t h e c h a i n . N o r m a l r o u n d
files are not suitable.
— Diameter of the round file for each saw chain is as
f o l l o w s :
• C h a i n b l a d e 80 T X L : 4 .0 m m
— The file should only engage the cutter on the forward
stroke. Lift the file off the cutter on the return stroke.
— Sharpen the shortest cutter first. Then the length
o f t h i s s h o r t e s t c u t t e r b e c o m e s t h e s t a n d a r d f o r a l l
o t h e r c u t t e r s o n t h e s a w c h a i n .
— Guide the file as shown in the figure.

— The file can be guided more easily if a file holder
(optional accessory) is employed. The file holder
h a s m a r k i n g s f o r t h e c o r r e c t s h a r p e n i n g a n g l e o f
30 ° ( a l i g n t h e m a r k i n g s p a r a l l e l t o t h e s a w c h a i n )
a n d l i m i t s t h e d e p t h o f p e n e t r a t i o n ( t o 4 / 5 o f t h e
file diameter).

C l e a n o u t t h e c h i p s a n d s a w d u s t e v e r y t i m e w h e n y o u
s h a r p e n o r r e p l a c e t h e s a w c h a i n .

Cleaning the oil discharge hole

Replacing the sprocket
CAUTION:
A worn sprocket will damage a
new saw chain. Have the sprocket replaced in this
case.
Before fitting a new saw chain, check the condition of
t h e s p r o c k e t .

Always fit a new locking ring when replacing the
