ENGLISH – HF500-Cotag Hands-Free reader
Description
This document is valid for both the Siemens
and Bewator branded products.
The HF500-Cotag is a Hands-Free reader for
connection to SiPass/Bewator Entro, Bewator-
2010, DC800 or SiPass integrated. The HF500-
Cotag is for indoor mounting. The reader is
compatible with both active and passive Cotag
cards and tags. Hands-Free readers read cards or
tags without them being in contact with the
reader.
The reader continuously transmits a low power
radio frequency. When a card or tag is presented
within the field of the reader, it activates and
transmits a unique identification number back to
the reader. The reader then sends this code to the
connected control unit in SiPass/Bewator Entro,
Bewator 2010, DC800 or SiPass integrated.
See Illustration 1 on page 10

Mounting and Mechanical
Installation
The reader can be mounted on all types of
materials; it can be mounted behind glass or can
even be flush mounted.
The only limit is that the reader may not be
completely surrounded by metal, if the reader is to
be flush mounted then the distance to surrounded
metal should be at least 5 cm, no metal should be
directly in front of the reader.
When flush mounting the reader or mounting on
metal the maximum read range would reduce.
Note! Avoid mounting the reader near sources of
electrical noise, such as motors, generators,
pumps, computer installations and mains cabling.
The reader is supplied with its cover separate. If
the cover has been fitted, remove it by pushing in
the two lugs on its lower edge using a suitable
screwdriver. Mark out the mounting holes, but
don't mount the reader until you have route the
cable into the reader. Mount the reader at a height
of 1000 - 1200 mm (from the floor to the bottom
edge of the reader).
Do not fit the cover to the reader until you have
tested it. See Set-up below.
All other information regarding installation and
programming can be found in the manual supplied
with the control unit.
Connection
Connecting the HF500-Cotag to
SiPass/Bewator Entro door central
DC22, DC12 - or DC800
Use a screened multicore cable (i.e. Belden 9536
6-core screen) for connection between the reader
and the door central. Maximum cable distance is
50 metres. Connect the cable screen in case of
long distances or disturbing environment, and
then remove LK1 from the interface unit. See
Illustration 2 on page 10.
Note !
For SiPass/Bewator Entro - connect to the
Clock&Data terminal block and set the link J4
in the door central to +V = Vin.
For DC800 - set the jumper J1 to Vin and the
jumper J4 to Clock&Data.
The power to the door central will then also be fed
to the reader.
Connecting the reader HF500-Cotag
to Bewator 2010 E2V
The drawing shows how the HF500-Cotag
connects to the Bewator 2010 system where the
node E2V is used. Maximum cable length is 25
metres.
Note! The HF500-Cotag reader has to be re-
configured by setting the CONFIG jumper 1 to ON
and jumper 2 to OFF, power it up and then
presenting a configuration card. Otherwise the
HF500-Cotag will not work properly together with
the E2V. Reset the jumpers afterwards. The
configuration card can be ordered separately from
Siemens Building Technologies.
The power supply for the reader interface HF500-
Cotag is connected to the E2V:s incoming power
supply input). Maximum +24V.
Note that due to current limitations, no
connections are made to the +12V power supply
output terminals found within in the E2V.
See Illustration 3 on page 10.
Connecting the reader HF500-Cotag
to SiPass integrated ADD5100
The drawing shows how the HF500-Cotag
connects to the SiPass integrated system where
the ADD5100 (DRI) is used.
See Illustration 4 on page 11.
