MACHINE MAINTENANCE

7.10.1 SHARPENING OF KNIVES

a) The knife may be sharpened with a file or a grinder. Do not carry out the sharpening directly on the mowing mechanism. Pay great attention to the
alignment and balancing of knives. The vibrations generated by the unaligned and unbalanced knives can cause a serious damage to the engine or mowing
mechanism. When balancing, insert a screwdriver into the centring hole and set the knife into the horizontal position (see the figure 7.10). If the knife
remains in this position, it is balanced. If one of the knife ends is overbalancing, carry out the grinding of this side until the knife is balanced. The allowable
static unbalance may maximally be 2g.
b) TRIPLEX knives
Dismantle the individual blades from the holder and sharpen them separately. Particular care should be taken at reassembly in order not to confuse
individual blades. The difference in weight of individual blades can maximally be 2g.

7.11 STEERING UNIT MAINTENANCE

Check regularly if there is not an unallowable
clearance between the gear segment of steering
and pinion of steering wheel shaft. If the bigger
clearance is ascertained, eliminate it. Negligence
of this maintenance may result in a damage to
the parts of steering unit. At elimination of the
clearance, first, loosen the two M12 nuts 1 on
the screw of eccentric. Put on a suitable spanner
onto the eccentric hexagonal head 2 and turn it
until the clearance is eliminated to the minimum.
Then, retighten both M12 nuts 1.

7.12 CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT OF TRAVEL DRIVE BELT

The belt is tensioned correctly if it sags approx. by 1.5 cm when the force
of 4 kg is applied in the middle distance between pulleys 1 and 2.
Designation of parts in the figure:
1.
engine pulley
2. guiding pulley
3. tension pulley
4. gearbox pulley
The adjusting of the belt tension is carried out by
the tightening of the nut on the screw tensioning the
tension spring, and then by readjusting the screw 3
(fig. 7.11) so that the spring will be tensioned to the
length of 50 1 mm.

7.13 CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT OF MOWING

MECHANISM SETTING-UP
The correct setting-up of the mowing mechanism is important
for ensuring the quality mowing.
At the checking and adjusting proceed, as follows:
Place the machine on an even surface and check the pressure in tyres.
Set the mowing mechanism height setting-up lever 6.1.17 to the position "2".
Check the height of the mowing mechanism front edge above the ground
which must be the same on both sides, 17 - 19 mm.
Adjust the difference by turning the nut 1 after loosening the locking nut 2.
The nuts are accessible after removing the accumulator box
(at machines of the SJ2..., SJ3..., SJ4..., SJ5... type), or the tool box
(at machines of the SJ8..., SG8...).
After adjustment retighten the nut 2.
7.14 CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT OF MOWING

MECHANISM DRIVE V-BELT

The V-belt of the mowing mechanism is tensioned by means of a pulley with
a spring. If the tension releases due to the working stress of the belt, increase
it by displacing the suspension eye of the spring 1 into the second hole
in the lever 2 of the tension pulley.
