Operating instructions
Two-pole voltage tester with RCD test
VC-37
Item no. 2384631
Intended use
The two-pole voltage tester is a portable test device that detects and indicates the voltage
levels of low voltage circuits. It is intended to indicate DC and AC voltages in the range of 12
to 400 V, and polarity by applying bipolar. The voltage ranges are represented in 7 levels.
The indicators for the valid limit values for hazardous contact voltage of 50 V/AC or 120 V/DC
are available.
The voltage tester complies with the standard for two-pole voltage testers (IEC/EN 61243-3/
DIN VDE 0682-401) and protection type IP64 (dust and splash proof), and is intended for dry or
damp indoor and outdoor locations. Operating the device during rainfall or precipitation is not
permitted. The voltage tester is designed for use by qualified electricians in conjunction with
personal protective equipment.
The device also has a button for reducing the impedance. This can be used to test the func-
tion of a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB/RCD) or to suppress phantom voltages in the
measuring circuit.
The voltage tester may only be used in systems up to measurement category CAT III (domestic
installations/sub-distributions) up to 400 V against earth potential.
This measurement category includes all lower categories (e.g. CAT II for voltage testing on
electrical devices with mains cables that are connected directly to mains voltage and CAT I for
voltage testing on devices that are not directly connected to mains voltage (battery-operated
devices)).
Use in CAT IV (at the source of the low-voltage installation) is not permitted.
The voltage tester must be clasped by the two handles (1 and 10) while taking measurements.
Do not touch beyond the tactile barriers of the gripping area (5 and 8). Do not cover the indica-
tor panel and do not touch the metal contacts at the measuring tips and measurement points.
Follow also any additional safety instructions contained in this manual.
Operation under adverse ambient conditions is not permitted. Adverse conditions include:
• Wetness or high humidity
• Dust and flammable gases, vapors or solvents
• Potentially explosive atmosphere (Ex)
• Thunderstorms or similar conditions such as strong electrostatic fields, etc.
Delivery content
• Two-pole voltage detector
• 2 terminal screws (Ø 4 mm, for CAT II)
• 2 plastic protective sheaths, for CAT III

Description of symbols
The symbol with the lightning in the triangle is used if there is a risk to your health,
e.g., due to an electric shock.
The symbol with an exclamation mark in a triangle is used to highlight important
information in these operating instructions. Always read this information carefully.
The arrow symbol indicates special information and tips on how to use the product.
This device is CE compliant and therefore meets the necessary national and Euro-
pean guidelines.
CAT I
Measurement category I for measuring electrical and electronic devices that are not
directly supplied with mains voltage (e.g. battery-operated devices, etc.).
CAT II
Measurement category II for measuring electrical and electronic devices that are
directly supplied with mains voltage via a mains plug or at in-built sockets (front).
This category also includes all lower categories (e.g. CAT I for measuring signal and
control voltages).
CAT III
Measurement category III for measuring circuits of installations in buildings (e.g.
sockets (rear) or sub-distributions). This category also includes all lower categories
(e.g. CAT II for measuring electrical devices).
CAT IV
Measurement Category IV: for measurements at the source of the low-voltage
installation (e.g. main distribution, home delivery points of the utility companies,
etc.).
Safety information
Read the operating instructions carefully and observe in particular the safety
instructions. If you do not follow the safety information and information on
proper handling in these operating instructions, we will assume no liability
for any resulting personal injury or damage to property. Such cases will also
invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible for
reasons of safety and approval (CE).
• For any work carried out, the accident prevention regulations of the Employer's
Liability Insurance Association for Electrical Systems and Operating Facilities must
be observed
• In schools, training facilities, hobby and self-help workshops, the use of gauges
and testers should be supervised in a responsible manner by trained staff.
• Ensure that you install the device properly. Follow the steps in these operating
instructions.
• The voltage values given on the voltage tester are nominal voltages.
• Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or high
humidity. The readout is only ensured within a temperature range of -10 to +55°C
and a relative air humidity of max. 85% (non-condensing).
• Hold the voltage tester only by the designated gripping areas (1 and 10). Never
reach beyond the tactile barrier of the gripping areas (5 and 8).
• Always check that the voltage tester is functioning properly prior and after
employment. Measure a known voltage source (e.g. mains voltage 230 V/AC) first,
and check the accuracy of the readout. Don't use the voltage tester any longer, in
case one or more indication ranges fail to function.
• Do not destroy the casing!
• The voltage tester must only be used in systems with an indicated voltage range.
• The next higher voltage range on the level indicator starts at 0.85 times the
nominal value.
• The applicable DC voltage limit value for hazardous contact voltage (in accordance
with DIN VDE 0100, part 410) is indicated by the light indicator at 120 V.
• The applicable DC voltage limit value for hazardous contact voltage (in accordance
with DIN VDE 0100, part 410) is indicated by the light indicator at 50 V.
• The voltage tester only works correctly on earthed low-voltage systems. Improperly
earthed systems can have an adverse effect on the indication.
• If the neutral wire (N) or the earth wire (PE) is interrupted, no display is shown!
• Keep the voltage tester in a clean condition, and store it in a dry place in the
correct manner.
• This product is not a toy and has no place in the hands of children.
• When using the voltage tester in the range of measurement category CAT III, it
is recommended that the enclosed plastic protective sheath (2) be pushed over
over the test probes in order to reduce the exposed length of the contact tips. This
reduces the risk of possible short cut during testing.
