Oil Heater
K 160 eco-e

5. Connections

Electrical connection
The unit is operated with alternating current 230 V, 50 Hz. The K 160eco-e is operated via a
2.5 m long cable with two-pin grounded plug (Schuko plug). Connection may only be
established to grids safeguarded with a fuse of at least 16 A. Longer cables should have a
minimum cross-section of 3 x 2.5 mm ² and/or 5 x 2.5 mm ² in order to avoid a too severe voltage
drop up to the unit. The unit shall function without problems at undervoltages down to 170 V. In
the case of malfunctions, the voltage on the unit should be checked as well.
Oil pre-heating
Heating oil releases paraffin at low temperatures. This clogs the oil filter and cannot be pumped.
Thus, the unit cannot start. For this reason, the units are equipped with electrical heating
elements. Oil pre-heating ensures the flowing capability of the oil. It is thermostat-controlled
regardless of the unit switch. However, the plug of the power cord must be connected to a
functioning and safeguarded (by fuse) power source.
At temperatures below 0 ° C, the power plug must be connected approx. 1 hour prior to unit
commissioning.
Chimney connection
We recommend a 1 m pipe with a 200 mm diameter and a rain hood for outdoor installations or
in open rooms in order to exclude rain and dirt ingress as much as possible and to minimize the
draft.
In the case of temporary operation in closed rooms, e.g. winter constructions, the combustion
gases shall be exhausted into the atmosphere. The exhaust line shall be routed such that a
draft of at least 10 PA is ensured and counter pressure is not possible in the line under any
circumstances. For this reason, it shall be ensured that the exhaust line is ascending and that
its end runs vertically upwards. It shall at least be routed above eaves height, better above ridge
height, to avoid counter pressure caused by the wind resulting in sooting of the burner. The
exhaust pipes shall have a minimum distance of 0.5 m from combustible parts and shall be
reliably fastened. Their diameter shall not be smaller than the exhaust fitting of the air heater.
According to the Building Code, a connection to a chimney with a diameter of 200 mm is
required for continuous operation in closed rooms. This chimney shall at least be routed 0.40 m
above the ridge.
In the case of questions regarding exhaust routing, the responsible chimney sweep shall be
consulted for advice.
