Caution!
Ø Disconnect from mains prior to opening the
device as appliance sockets, cables or other
contact parts inside the device may still contain
hazardous mains voltages.
Prior to carrying out the testing described below, the
inside and outside of the device must be visually checked
for any defects.
It must also be visually checked that all subassemblies
removed during the repair are correctly secured and that
the movement of moveable parts is not impeded.
When visually checking the safe condition of the device,
it must be ensured that
Ø the fuses comply with the values specified by the
manufacturer,
Ø any labelling and stickers on the device are legible,
Ø the mechanical condition allows the further secure
operation,
Ø there is no contamination that could adversely affect
the safety of the device
Ø no solder residue, cut-off wires, loose screws etc. are
left inside the device,
Ø the protective earth conductors are not damaged,
Ø any screw connections providing the electrical
connection between two housing parts, are securely
fixed,
Ø the connecting wires are not adversely strained.
3.1
Damage caused by disinfecting agents, UV
radiation, etc.
The disinfecting agents used in the operating theatre as
well as the ozone released during the use of UV radiation
can change the surface of the device subassemblies.
3.1.1

Wiring

Cables must be checked for their correct condition and
seat. In case where inadequate insulation, breaks and
inadequate contacts are suspected, the respective cables
must be replaced.
3.1.2

Electronic boards

In case of any signs of corrosion or other damage to the
contacts or solder points of the boards, the boards must
21
be replaced to ensure the safe operation of the device.
After replacing the board, all plug-in connections must
be carefully re-connected and the board catch must be
closed again.
3.1.3

Housing

The condition of the front panel and housing must be
checked. No damage that could adversely affect the
function and safety of the device may be detected. The
correct functioning of the control panels and LEDs must
be checked.
3.2

Mechanical damage

Where serious mechanical damage has occurred during
transportation or due to incorrect use, the device must be
returned to the manufacturer for repair.
4

Putting the device into operation
