Description of technical function

General information
The functional description explains the functions of the
individual circuit subassemblies and their cooperation.
As far as possible, complete functional units have always
been positioned on the same printed board. The block
diagram is mainly based on these functional units, so
that there is always a direct connection between a block
of the block diagram and the individual printed boards.
The aim of this technical description is to introduce
service technicians authorized by the manufacturer to
the technical aspects and functional principles of this
device and to enable them to carry out certain repairs by
themselves, where required. It is, however, not intended
to provide such in-depth information to allow the repair
of subassemblies. Instead, a detailed overall description
and specific measuring instructions should allow
technicians
to
recognize
subassemblies or reset them, where necessary.

Mode of operation

The electric surgical motor GA835 (GA830), with
clockwise and counterclockwise torque, transfers the
motor output to the different AESCULAP handpieces via
the flexible shaft. With the aid of the foot pedal (i.e.
GA188) the control electronics allow an infinitely variable
speed control of up to max. 20000 rpm. The speed can be
precisely adjusted and maintained at a constant level
even under extreme loading.
The electric surgical motor GA835 (GA830) contains an
flexible shaft sensor.
Where a macro-flexible shaft is used, the motor
automatically switches to clockwise torque and at the
same time limits the motor speed to a maximum of
15000 rpm.
The motor cannot be run with counterclockwise torque.

Where an micro-flexible shaft is used, the motor can be
operated with both clockwise and counterclockwise
torqueat a maximum speed of 20000 rpm. An acoustic

when
counterclockwise torque.
Note:
The micro-flexible shaft must contain an flexible
shaft sensor for the aforementioned work, i.e. flexible
shafts (GA173 to SN: 06984; GA176 to SN: 13373)
must be equipped with a new sleeve (for uncoupling
the flexible shaft from the device). The new sleeve has
a circumferential notch in the first third of the sleeve.
The sleeve can be ordered as item number GA183R.
In case of micro-flexible shafts without a sensor, the
motor automatically switches to clockwise torque and
limits the maximum speed to 15000 rpm –
counterclockwise operation is then blocked.
Flexible shafts GA173 are fitted as standard from SN:
06985 onwards and GA176 from SN: 13373 onwards.
Upon starting the unit, a cooling fan is activated.
The electric surgical motor GA835 contains an integral
cooling/irrigation
system
activated/deactivated via the foot controls. The flow rate
of the irrigation fluid can be infinitely varied with rotary
button (9). The pump does, however, only run when the
motor has been activated.
The device can be operated at voltages of 100-120V ∼ and
220-240V ∼ (+/- 10%).
