Do not connect both power supply connections simultaneously. Do not attempt to
use the charger to charge a battery with an AC voltage and a DC voltage at the same
time. This may damage the charger.
• The charger switches on automatically when it is connected to the power supply. The two
displays of the L and R charging outputs light up, a start message appears and the charger
emits a short beep.
• Afterwards, the charger is ready for use.
c) Power distribution with AC voltage operation
• Standard power distribution is preset to K1 + K2 = 100 W with simultaneous use at 50:50
per channel. Distribution examples: 100 W + 0 W, 80 W + 20 W, 50 W + 50 W, etc. are also
possible. The powers are added/subtracted accordingly. If you are using both channels, the
output power of channel 1 is 100 W minus the output power of channel 2 (CH1 power =
100 W - CH2 power).
• If only channel 1 is used, the channel can supply up to 100 W. If only channel 2 is used, it
can only supply max 50 W.
• If a channel is activated at a later stage, the power of the first channel in operation is
reduced accordingly.
d) Connecting a battery to the charger
Please read the following section carefully before connecting or charging/discharging a battery:
• Are you familiar with the battery data? Unknown or unlabelled batteries, the necessary
values of which you do not know, must not be connected/charged/discharged!
• Ensure that you do not swap the battery connections R and L (10 and 11 as well as 16
and 17).
• Have you selected the correct charging/discharging programme for the type of battery you
are using? Selecting the wrong programme may damage the charger and the battery and
cause a fire or explosion!
• Have you selected the correct charging/discharging current?
• Have you selected the correct voltage (e.g. for multi-cell LiPo batteries)? In certain
scenarios, a dual-cell LiPo battery can be connected in parallel (3.7 V) or series (7.4 V).
• Are all cables and connections intact? Do the connectors fit securely into the sockets? Worn
connectors and damaged cables should be replaced.
• Only connect a single battery/battery pack to the charger output. Never connect several
batteries/battery packs at the same time.
Otherwise there is a risk of short-circuit. This may result in a fire or explosion of the
battery.
• If you wish to charge a self-assembled battery pack, the cells must be identical (same type,
capacity and manufacturer).
The cells must also be charged to the same state of charge (lithium batteries can be
balanced using the balancer, but this is not possible with other battery packs such as
NiMH or NiCd).
• Before connecting a battery/battery pack to the charger, disconnect the battery/battery pack
from your device (e.g speed controller).
The batteries must not be connected before a proper power supply is available to
the charger. The charger will warn you of incorrect connection of batteries. If the
message 'Reverse Polarity' is displayed, remove the battery immediately and
only then switch the charger off. Do not switch the charger off if batteries are still
connected.
Always check that you have set the charging parameters correctly before connecting
a battery. If the settings are incorrect, the battery may become damaged. It may
catch fire or explode. Check that your wiring has the correct polarity.
Always connect the charging cables to the charger first and only then connect the
other ends to the battery to avoid short-circuits. Conversely, always disconnect a
battery from the charging cables first after charging. Never remove the charging
cables from the charger while the battery is still connected.
Important information on charging/discharging multi-cell lithium batteries with a
balancer connection:
Multi-cell lithium batteries usually have a balancer connection. This allows the charger to
monitor the voltage of each individual cell separately.
You can connect 6S batteries directly to the balancer connection with a suitably long
cable. A balance board must be interconnected for 2S, 3S, 4S and 5S batteries. An
additional balancer board can be obtained via the Conrad website with item number
2255906.
The charger adjusts the voltage of all cells to one another in the event of deviations. The
balancer therefore prevents one or multiple cells from over or undercharging. The balancer
therefore protects both against overcharging (which can lead to fire or explosion) and against
deep discharge of a single cell, ensuring optimal performance of the battery in your model.
Connecting a battery to the charger:
1. Connect the charger to the power supply.
2. Start by connecting the charging cable to the two battery connections R and L (10 and 11
as well as 16 and 17) of the charger outputs using the round connectors. Ensure that the
battery is inserted with the correct polarity (red cable = positive/+, black cable = negative/-).
A charging cable must not be connected to the battery yet. This may result in a short-
circuit of the charging cable connector, which could cause a fire or explosion.
3. The two balancer connections (12) and (15) are used for connection of the balancer cables.
If you would like to connect a multi-cell lithium battery pack with balance cable to the
charger, connect a balancer board (XH adapter) to the corresponding socket on the charger
(at output L and/or R). The balancer cables for 6S batteries can be connected directly to the
balancer connections, provided that the cables are sufficiently long.
4. Now, connect the charging cable to the battery. Ensure that the battery is inserted with the
correct polarity (red cable = positive/+, black cable = negative/-).
5. Connect the balancer connector of a multi-cell lithium battery to the corresponding
connection on the XH adapter. Do not use force when connecting. Ensure the correct
polarity.
The negative connection of the balancer connector on the battery is usually marked
(e.g. black cable); the negative terminal on the balancer board is also marked (imprinted
with '-').
If the balance connector on the battery does not match the shape of the socket on the XH
adapter (this is intended for XH connectors), you must use a suitable connection cable.
You can obtain the cable from an accessories retailer.
Connect an external temperature sensor for battery temperature monitoring (not included)
to the temperature sensor connections R and L (13) and (14). Suitable temperature
sensors can be purchased separately from Conrad using item no. 2258298.
Example for charging two lithium batteries with balancer connector:
To disconnect a battery, proceed as follows:
1. If a multi-cell lithium battery is connected to the balancer board via the balancer cable,
disconnect the cable from the balancer board first.
2. Disconnect the charging cable from the battery
3. Finally, disconnect the charging cable from the charger. Always proceed as follows:
Always proceed as follows:
The battery must always be disconnected from the charging cable (and from the
balancer connection in the case of lithium batteries) first. Only then can the charging
cable be disconnected from the charger.
Any other sequence may cause a short-circuit through the two round plugs of
the charging cable connected to the battery, plus there is also a risk of fire and
explosion.
4. If there is no longer a battery connected to the charger, you can disconnect the charger
from the power supply.
e) Charging
1. Properly connect the batteries to the charger as outlined above in 'Connecting a battery to
the charger'. The charger must be supplied with power before the batteries are connected.
2. Verify that all settings for the batteries that you intend to charge have been set correctly.
3. Start charging.
4. Wait until the correct charging parameters are shown on the LC display (7) and (8).
5. When charging is complete, disconnect the balancer cable from the balancer board and
only then remove the battery charging connections from the charging cables.
When a balancer cable is connected, the charger automatically detects the number
of cells. The charger starts the battery programme only if the number of set and
automatically detected cells is the same.
General information on using the menu
An overview of the menu structure can be found in the next section.
The two outputs, L and R, on the charger operate independently of one another. The two
outputs (charging/discharging channels) are operated via a backlit LC display and four buttons
to the right.
