3. Commissioning the product

Checks before first startup:
• The pump is installed according to the installation and
operating instructions for the pump type used.
• The MP 204 is configured either by use of a PC Tool or with
Grundfos GO Remote according to the motor and pump
specifications.

3.1 Startup

The motor current and trip conditions have to be adjusted and set
during startup. To adjust and set these parameters, see
installation and operating instructions for the MP 204.
Check that the motor and pump operates according to the
specifications.

3.2 Operation

Control MP 204 is operated via a "H-O-A" switch in the cabinet
front or via a PC.

In Manual mode, the pump starts directly in DOL or SD mode.
Off, O
In Off mode, the pump is switched off.
Auto, A
In Auto mode, a pressure switch, float switch or a signal from a
PLC system, is used to control the pump.
For manual operation, both variants of the Control MP 204
incorporate the following components in the cabinet front.

The Control MP 204 operates with two sets of limits:
• a set of warning limits
• a set of alarm limits, trip.
If one or more of the warning limits are exceeded, the motor
continues to run.
If one of the alarm limits is exceeded, the motor is stopped.

4. Product introduction

The Control MP 204 is used to start and stop the pump according
to an input signal. The input signal comes either from a main
control system, like a PLC, or from a simple input, like a switch.
The built-in MP 204 motor protector will ensure long service life of
the pump.
The Control MP 204 can optionally be fitted with a Grundfos CIU
unit, Communication Interface Unit, enabling transmission of the
collected data.

4.1 Modules

The Control MP 204 is designed to protect the motor both
electrically and mechanically.

The MP 204 protects the motor electrically by disconnecting the
motor or pump when one of the trip limits has been reached.
Trip conditions:
• Overload
• Underload, dry running
• Temperature, Tempcon sensor, PTC/thermal switch and Pt
sensor
• Missing phase
• Phase sequence
• Overvoltage
• Undervoltage

• Power factor, cos φ
• Current unbalance.
Sensor inputs and output:
• Pt100 or Pt1000 sensor
• PTC sensor.

From the factory, the MP 204 is set to automatic
restarting after a trip.
