Instruction Manual
ASSGxxx-L
The electric-hydraulic cutting unit is equipped with a so-
phisticated circuit board indicating the user when the next
service is due. (Pls. read chapter 4.3 for more informati-
on) The unit must then be returned to an authorised ser-
vice center.
If the seals are damaged the warranty is invalidated.
4.5 Oil changing cycles
It is advisable to have the unit serviced by a specialist
during regular intervals to safeguard a technically proper
state before use.

2 years
The hydraulic oil has to be completely changed after two
years or 250 cutting cycles. The oil change must be done
by the manufacturer or a specially authorized Service
Center (ASC) for this specifi c tool. Changing the oil must
be documented.
4.6 Reference as to which (spare-) parts
can be exchanged by the customers
Within the determined use of the unit the customer is only
allowed to change the blades (pic. 1.1).
Attention
Do not destroy the seals of the unit!
Do not attempt to repair the tool yourself, and do not re-
move any parts such as screws and other components.
4.7 Storage and transport of the unit
To avoid damaging the unit during transport it should al-
ways be transported in a carrying case. It must be paid at-
tention that the insulating hose (pic. 1.4) is properly rolled
up avoiding an extreme bending radius.
5.
Troubleshooting
The hydraulic safety cutting unit is basically trouble-free.
Should nevertheless be trouble with this unit return it to
the manufacturer or contact the manufacturer for advice.
Below there is a list of possible errors and their remedy:
The cutting cycle can not be terminated properly.
=> Inform the net provider, respectively the control of-
fi ce, immediately. In case it must be assumed that the
blades have already cut into the cable special caution is
required.
Immediate action is required to cordon the working site to
avoid immediate hazards for nearby personnel.
The cable must be checked with suitable measuring
equipment by an electrician to determine the voltage sta-
tus. Only when the voltage-free state of the cable is defi -
nitely determined the cutting head can be approached.

The cutting head (pic. 1) is damaged during the cutting
cycle.
=> In case the cutting cycle could be completed despite
of the damage the cutting head must be returned to the
manufacturer for a damage report and repair.
Insulating fl uid is leaking.
=> Stop cutting cycle, actuate the retract button (pic. 2.16
& 3.16) and examine the safety cutting unit for leakage's.
If the leakage can not be positively located the complete
unit must be returned to the manufacturer for service.
Flashing of the LED (pic. 2.15 & 3.15)
=> Exchange battery (pic. 3.6). See chapter 4.3 for more
information about the special functions of the tool.
The cutting tool does not reach the fi nal operating pres-
sure.
=> Stop the cutting process. Press the retract button (pic.
3.8) and the trigger (pic. 2.16 & 3.16) simultaneously and
continuously for about 10 sec. Is the malfunction not be
eliminated by this attempt the tool has to be returned to
the manufacturer.
6.
How to act after a short circuit
After a short circuit at a voltage level ≥ 6 kV it is possible
that the blades do not retract by themselves. In most ca-
ses this will not cause signifi cant damage on the safety
cutting unit.
When cutting a cable (e.g. NKBA or NEKEBA 95-120
mm²) which is accidentally live with a nominal voltage ex-
ceeding 10 kV a earth contact with a light arc (not visible
from outside) occurs after 13 to 15 sec. After an other
0,4-17 sec a 2- respectively 3-pole short circuit with an in-
tensive light arc burning towards the outside occurs. With
currents exceeding 5 kA the cutting head melts and the
blades and guidance will get heavily damaged. With cur-
rents exceeding 10 kA the cutting heads will most likely be
propelled away from working site.
Give the cutting head time to cool down before you ap-
proach the working site respectively the cutting head. This
is of special importance if the cutting head was exposed
to the light arc during the complete short circuit.
After a short circuit damaging more than the blades of the
cutting head the head must be returned to the manufac-
turer for service.
