3.3 Description of the tool indication
See tab. 3
3.4 Description of the actuating and con-
trol functions
The battery capacity must be checked (pic. 3) by brief-
ly actuating the trigger. Does the LED fl ash as indicated
above then the battery must be recharged because the
battery capacity might not be suffi cient to complete the
cutting cycle (worst case scenario assumed).
When actuating the trigger (pic. 2.16. & 3.16) hydraulic
oil is pumped from the oil reservoir into the cylinder of the
cutting head. From outside the system this procedure can
be monitored by the rise of the needle of the pressure
gauge (pic. 2.14 & 3.14) respectively the closing motion of
the blades. As soon as the blades (pic. 1) touch the cable,
respectively the shift pressure is reached, the pump swit-
ches from the fast advance speed into the slow working
speed. After this change the blades start penetrating the
cable.
After the cable is cut the pressure indicated by the pressu-
re gauge drops signifi cantly. The trigger must be actuated
until the max. operating pressure is reached and the reli-
ef valve is activated. The max. operating pressure is the
highest pressure which can be reached in the system. An
increase of pressure is limited by the release valve. The
circuit board controls the cutting cycle on its own while the
trigger is actuated.
When reaching the max. operating pressure of 625 bars
the actual value of the operating pressure must be deter-
mined with the help of the pressure gauge and possibly
recorded. Afterwards the cutting cycle can be terminated
either by actuating the trigger again or by actuating the
release button (pic. 3.8) once.
The cutting cycle is terminated now and the cable is cut.
The blades (pic. 1) will be returned into their starting po-
sition on its own.
3.5 Description of the connecting devices
The connecting devices (pic. 25) represents a detacha-
ble connection between the drive unit and the insulating
hose. They consist of a female and a male coupling which
can be engaged or disengaged and present in the enga-
ged state a pressure prove, leakage free connection.
3.6 Description of the cutting procedure
With scissors style cable cutter heads the the two blades
(pic. 1.1) move towards each other on a circular path to-
wards the cable.
The cutting head (pic. 1) must be positioned in an ang-
le of 90° towards the cable in order to avoid undesired
shearing forces. The cable must be fed between the open
cutting blades.
In the slow working speed the blades penetrate the cable.
The pressure pick-up happens as described in the previ-
ous chapters.

Remarks in respect of the determi-
ned use
It is mandatory according to German law BGV A3 §6 Cl.2
that the line is made and maintained inactive during main-
tenance.
Since determining a live state of a cables, especially earth
cable, is not always possible alternatively the live line sta-
tus can be verifi ed by cutting the cable with this safety
cutting unit. At the same time the net provider should be
contacted.
The portable cable cutting unit type ASSG-L serves
to check cables whether they are live or not and to cut
stranded copper and Aluminum cables and conductors
with a nominal voltage of max. 60 kV and a nominal fre-
quency of 60 Hz where it can not be determined whether
they are live without any risk for the operator. (see EN
50110-1 Abs. 6.2.3) Single core cables up to a maximum
of 110 kV and max. 60 Hz can also be cut in combination
with organisational measures which take into account the
special conditions which must be observed when cutting
single core cables.
Do not disregard the safety instructions supplied in the
German standard DIN VDE 0105 part 100 Chapter 9.

4.1. Operation of the unit

1.
After removing the safety cutting unit out of the carry-
ing case the unit must be checked for possible dama-
ges.
2.
Roll out the insulated hose (pic. 1.4) completely. This
distance serves for your safety in case the cable
should be live. Please take into consideration that the
hose will get shorter when under pressure. It must be
guaranteed that the position of the cutting head will
not change during the cutting cycle.
Attention
When paying out the insulated hose please
make sure that you can see the section of the
cable where the cable is cut.
This means provides that no trespassers stay in the dan-
ger zone. In addition and prior starting the cutting pro-
cedure the cutting zone must be cordoned off in a 10 m
radius.
In case the insulated hose can not be payed out due to a
lack of space other suitable means of protection must be
provided such as earth walls or ditches.
On the pump as well as on the cutting head (acc. to EN
50340) there are fastening points (for bolts with wing nuts)
for the cable providing equipotential bonding.
Attention
Do not ground the cutting head in Germany.
(see BGI 845 (ZH 1/437))
In some European countries the cutting head must
be grounded due to possibly cutting one phase cables
causing a one phase short circuit.
3.
Check the battery capacity of both batteries by briefl y
actuating the trigger (pic. 2.16 & 3.16). If the LED in-
dicates a low battery as described in chapter 4.3 the
batteries must be charged prior to starting the wor-
king cycle.
