Commissioning

WARNING
Hazardous voltages are present in this electrical equipment during operation.
Non-observance of the safety instructions can result in death or severe injury
or considerable damage to property!
Even when the main contactor (line contactor) of the converter is open,
hazardous voltage may still be present in the equipment. Before commencing
maintenance or commissioning work all energy sources of the converter power
supply shall be switched off and locked.
The equipment may not be connected to a power supply system with residual
current operated circuit-breaker (VDE 0160, Section 6.5), since in the event of
a short-circuit to an exposed conductive part or of an earth fault a DC
component may be present in the fault current, which hinders or prevents
tripping of a superordinated residual current operated circuit-breaker. In this
case all other loads connected to this residual current operated circuit-breaker
are without device protection.
The successful and safe operation of this equipment is dependent on proper
handling, installation, operation and maintenance. Only qualified personnel
should work on or around this equipment after becoming thoroughly familiar
with all warnings, safety notices and maintenance procedures contained in
these operating instructions.
In particular the generally applicable requirements contained in Regulations for
Erection and Safety when carrying out work on Electric Power Installations
(e.g. DIN VDE) shall be complied with in addition to all standards dealing with
proper use of hoisting gear and tools and the use of protection equipment for
personnel (protective goggles, etc.).
All work carried out on the equipment and its installation shall be performed in
accordance with the national electrical regulations and the locally applicable
standards. This includes the requirement that the equipment shall be properly
earthed in order to ensure that neither the power supply system potential nor
any other hazardous voltage appear at any freely accessible part of the
equipment.
If it is necessary to carry out measurements during commissioning while the
equipment is switched on, electrical contacts should under no circumstances
be touched. One hand should always be kept completely free outside the
electrical circuits.
Use should be made only of measuring equipment of which you are sure that it
is safe and in working order.
You should stand on an insulated surface (suitable for electrostatically
endangered components) and convince yourself that this surface is not earthed
during performance of commissioning work on the live equipment.
When carrying out work on the connected load, the equipment main switch or
the plant-side automatic circuit-breaker must be secured in the OFF position by
means of a padlock.
During normal operation the covers should not be removed from their proper
location and the door(s) of the equipment cubicle should be kept closed.
These instructions do not contain an exhaustive list of all measures necessary
for safe operation of the equipment. Further measures may be necessary for
special applications or operating conditions. If special problems arise, which
are not adequately covered in these instructions for the purposes of the
purchaser, please contact your local Siemens regional office.
