Care of Grinding Wheels
Grinding wheels should be protected from:
wetness and extreme humidity
any type of solvent
extreme changes in temperature
dropping and bumping
Grinding wheels should be stored:
in an organized way so wheels can be
removed without disturbing or damaging
other wheels
with their safety information
Grinding wheels should NOT be:
dropped
rolled
bumped
If any wheel is dropped, rolled, bumped,
subjected to extreme changes in tempera-
ture or has come in contact with solvents
or wetness, discard wheel immediately.
To Test the Wheel
NOTE: Wheel must be dry to perform this
test.
1. Suspend the wheel by its arbor hole on
a small nail or dowel.
2. Tap the side of the wheel with the back
of a screwdriver (or any similar, solid,
non-metallic object).
3. Rotate wheel 90 degrees and repeat
the test in three more places.
If the wheel rings, it is in good condition. If
it does not ring, it is bad and should be
discarded.

Installing Grinding Wheel
1. Unplug tool and lay it on its tool rest.
2. Loosen wing nuts. Move studs aside and
swing faceplate open.
3. When you are installing a grinding wheel,
inspect it for damage and test it as de-
scribed in the Grinding Wheel Selec-
tion, Care and Testing.
NOTE: MILWAUKEE Straight Grinders
use Type 4 conical wheel with a 20mm
arbor hole. Type 4 conical wheels are
English
made to be used for edge grinding. They
are not to be used for side grinding.
4. Examine both flanges to ensure that
they are free of nicks.
NOTE: If the flange faces are damaged,
replace them with identical replacement
parts.
5. Place the inner flange on to the spindle,
stepped side first.
6. Insert outer flange into the hole of the
grinding wheel.
7. Place on to the spindle, wheel first.
8. Hold inner flange with spanner wrench,
provided with the tool. Tighten the
FIXTEC nut by lifting its handle and ro-
tating the nut assembly clockwise. Do
not overtighten. Flip handle on FIXTEC
nut back into place.
9. Swing faceplate back into closed posi-
tion. Move studs back into slots on
faceplate and tighten wing nuts.
10. To remove grinding wheel, unplug tool
and reverse the above procedure.

Installing Wire Wheel Brushes
1. Unplug tool and lay it on its tool rest.
2. Loosen wing nuts. Move studs aside
and swing faceplate open
3. To install wire wheel brush, place the
inner flange on to spindle, stepped side
first. Place the outer flange onto spindle,
smaller side first. Install wire wheel brush
on to spindle threads with nut facing the
outside and by rotating clockwise.
4. Hold inner flange with spanner wrench
provided with the tool.
5. Tighten wire wheel brush with an open
end wrench (not provided with the tool).
6. To remove wire wheel brush, unplug tool
and reverse the above procedure.
Using Wire Wheel Brushes
Wire brushes are useful for removing
rust, scale, burrs, weld slag, etc. A wide
variety of wire brushes are available for
many applications.
