7. Function of the Motion Detector

The integrated motion detector serves to activate the monitoring camera (photo or video) or the installed
lamp.
The PIR sensor in the motion detector reacts to temperature changes in the recording area, e.g. if a person,
animal or car with a different temperature than the background enters the recording area.
To ensure best detection, the motion detector must be placed so that the object to be detected does not ap-
proach the motion detector directly but passes the detection area from left to right or vice versa. Observe
this when you install the product. The horizontal recording angle is 52°.
The alignment of the recording area can be changed by turning or tiling.
The recording area can be limited further on demand by covering the plastic lens of the motion detector,
e.g. with a strip of opaque adhesive tape.
The range for recognition of a heat change in the detection area depends on several factors:
• Assembly height of the motion detector (recommended: at least 2 m)
• Temperature difference between the moving object and the background (environment)
• Size of the moving object
• Distance between the object and the motion detector
• Movement direction and speed of the object
• Ambience temperature (e.g. summer, winter)
Observe that recording of a heat change through glass is not possible due to the operating prin-
ciple.
In winter, the motion detector's function may be limited, since persons are well insulated through
their winter clothes, for example.
Similar problems are present at high ambience temperatures in summer, when there is only a
small heat difference between human skin and the sun-lit background in the surveillance area
(e.g. a house wall.
The range of the PIR sensors is about 9 m for recognition of persons; the range may be increased or redu-
ced due to the above conditions as well.
