With ceramic components, a risk of fracture can never be ruled out entirely. The following factors can increase this
risk:
- Overweight and obesity
- Alcohol or drug abuse
- physical activities associated with strong shocks which could result in the implant being exposed to impacts and/
or excessive loads (e.g. hard physical labour, certain types of sport).
This risk must be explained to the patient. Patients also need to be informed of any measures they can take to
help prevent potential consequences of these factors. The operating surgeon should keep a written record of all
information given to the patient.

3.5 System compatibility

Merete GmbH acetabular cups may only be combined with other Merete GmbH products. When performing
implantations, use only the Merete GmbH instruments expressly designed for that purpose.
BioBall® MaxiMotion™ Cup
The BioBall™ MaxiMotion™ Cup can be used with either BioBall™ metal heads (28 mm diameter) or BioBall
DELTA™ ceramic heads (28 mm diameter). BioBall™ metal heads and BioBall DELTA™ ceramic heads may only
be combined with BioBall™ Adapters (12/14 insertion cones, as per Merete specifications). Depending on their
dimensions, sliding pairs may be formed using the following combinations of materials:
• BioBall™ metal heads with polyethylene inlays
• BioBall DELTA™ ceramic heads with polyethylene inlays
Caution!
Do not use BioBall™ adapters together with hip stems using neck-insertion systems.
