4.0 DESCRIPTION OF CHARGE OPERATION

1.
When the battery charger has detected the correct voltage on the battery (>
2V for 6V batteries, > 4V for 12V batteries, 8V for 24V batteries), select GO
to start charging.
CHARGE: after approx. 1 second, the battery charger delivers current within
the maximum current and voltage limits set. Current supply is measured by
an ammeter. An internal timer stops charging when the factory pre-set time
has run out. In the event of short-circuiting of clamps or incorrect connec-
tion of the battery, the control disables the power circuit.
2.
If battery voltage is too low, the battery charger will not start up in automa-
tic mode. To start charging manually, press the GO key for 5 seconds.
IMPORTANT: always check that the battery has been connected correctly
before manual charging .
The battery charger will then commence charging and continue as long as
the key is pressed down. If the battery voltage is correct when the key is
released, press the GO key again to commence charging.
3.
If the battery voltage does not reach the voltage threshold by the maximum
time required, the battery charger shuts down and displays an error mes-
sage; otherwise, charging continues until the battery has been completely
charged. In the event that battery voltage does not reach the specified

5.0 DESCRIPTION OF MAINTENANCE OPERATION

When the function key (4) (Rif.4 - Fig. 1 page 3 ) is set to "Maintenance" position,
the Maintenance LED comes on. Proceed in the same way as for a normal charge.
The charger will charge until nominal gas production voltage is reached, and will

values by the maximum time for pre-charging, the display shows the mes-
sage Err and the battery charger sets to STOP .
The charge status <50% flashes for the first hour of the charge cycle. If the
battery is too run down, it will be automatically recharged at a reduced cur-
rent (10% I normal) until the minimum voltage value of 1.4 V/el. is reached.
After the first hour, the program carries out a battery voltage check, then:
a.
Displays an error message if the minimum voltage has not been reached.
b.
The battery charger carries out a constant current charge for the remaining
time if battery voltage is less than 2.3V per element for DRY/ GEL batteries
or 2.4V per element for WET batteries until the battery reaches the
endcharge voltage.
The maximum constant charging time is three hours if the fast charge has
been selected, or seven hours in the case of normal charging cycles. The
LED lamp indicating charge status <50% stops flashing and stays on throu-
ghout the constant current charge cycle.
c.
When the end-charge voltage has been reached, the battery charger redu-
ces current to maintain battery voltage constant. During constant voltage
charging, the 80% battery charge status lamp stays on while the cycle con-
tinues for a fixed time of 3 hours.
3 h
then trickle charge for 3 hours. When this phase is complete, the charger does not
switch off as it does in normal charge mode, but stays on without delivering cur-
rent until battery voltage drops below 2 V/cell. When this occurs the charger
restarts the normal charge cycle to boost the battery.
