SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING:
• Do not attach the super flange included in the package to
the grinder equipped with the brake function. Replace the
standard flange of the grinder equipped with the brake
function with the special flange specified by Makita.
• Read all safety warnings and instructions of both of the
tool and the accessory. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious
injury.
• Use this guard only with 230 mm Makita angle grinders.
• This guard is intended for concrete cutting with diamond
wheel. Never use this accessory for other purpose or with
grinding wheel.
• Check if there are no cracks or breakage before use.
• Stop using the tool if there are any cracks or breakage on
the guard. Otherwise personal injury may result.
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye
protection during operation. Otherwise concrete fragments
may harm your eyes. Protective equipment such as dust
mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection
used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
• Use only appropriate diamond wheel in accordance with
tool's instruction manual.
CAUTION:
• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or the like
for cleaning the accessory. Discoloration, deformation or
cracks may result.
• Up to 3.2 mm thickness of the diamond wheel can be used
with the dust collecting wheel guard.
WARNING:
There are two types of dust collecting wheel guard. Each
wheel guards respond to particular shape of installation parts
(bearing box) of the grinder respectively. Use the accessory
only in appropriate combination.

ASSEMBLY
CAUTION:
• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged
before adjusting or checking function on the tool.
• Make sure that the wheel guard is firmly installed on the
grinder before use. Otherwise personal injury may result.
Installing dust collecting wheel guard
To install the wheel guard, perform the following steps:
1. Remove the disc, wheel, side grip etc. and the wheel guard
from the grinder.

2. Press the lock-off button (2) to slide the cover upward.
(Fig. 2)
3. Press the release lever (8), and then slide the cover
upward. (Fig. 3)
4. Pull the lock plate (4), and then remove the cover from the
base. (Fig. 4)
5. Loosen the installation bolt (9) of the dust collecting wheel
guard with the hex wrench (10). (Fig. 5)
6. Turn over the grinder as indicated in the figure.
7. Align the notches (11) of the grinder with the teeth (7) of the
wheel guard. (Fig. 6)
8. Rotate the wheel guard appropriately for work application,
and then tighten the installation bolt (9) firmly with the hex
wrench (10). (Fig. 7)
Installing diamond wheel
CAUTION:
• Always use genuine diamond wheel only.
To install the diamond wheel, perform the following steps:
1. Install the super flange (12) or special flange for the grinder
equipped with the brake function, the diamond wheel (13),
and the lock nut (14) in that order onto the spindle (15).
(Fig. 8)
2. Press the lock button (16) to lock the spindle, and then
tighten the lock nut firmly with the wrench.
Notice:
• Be sure to replace the standard flange with the super flange
included in the package.
• Be sure to use the special flange specified by Makita for the
grinder equipped with the brake function.
• Do not use Ezynut with super flange. It is so thick that the
entire threaded cannot be retained by the spindle.
3. Attach the base of the wheel guard to the cover. (Fig. 9)
4. Press the release lever (8) of the wheel guard, and then
insert the base of the wheel guard into the cover. (Fig. 10)
Connecting with cleaner
CAUTION:
• Do not connect to the nozzle other than the hose of the
cleaner. The other accessory, like dust bag, may ignite by
hot chip.
Connect the nozzle (17) with the hose of the cleaner (18).
Attach the wrench holder (19) and hose holder (20) onto the
power cord. (Fig. 11)
Adjusting the position of the cutting guide
The cutting guide can be used as a guide for cutting position.
Adjust the position of the cutting guide as follows:
1. Loosen the guide (5) by turning the screw (21) with the
screwdriver. (Fig. 12)
2. Align the groove (22) on the guide (5) with the diamond
wheel (13). Then tighten the screw (21).
Adjusting and fixing the cutting depth
Adjust the cutting depth as follows:
1. Release the lock lever (23) of the cutting depth adjustment
stopper (1), then slide the adjustment stopper (1), and then
release the lock lever at the desired depth. (Fig. 13)
2. To fix the cutting depth, hold down the grinder to the desired
position, and then slide the fixing lever (3). (Fig. 14)
To release the fixing lever, press the lock-off button (2) for
the fixing lever.
CAUTION:
• Because the grinder and the wheel guard spring back to
its original position, be careful to hold the grinder and the
wheel guard during adjustment.
Notice:
• The depth can be adjusted in the range of 0 mm to 60 mm.
Installing the side grip
Install the grip (24) in accordance with the operations.
(Fig. 15)
Notice:
• Be sure to install the side grip included in the package. Do
not install other side grips.
